I'm going to move this topic to the Health and Nutrition section.

Sounds like demodex mange.

There's some great info on this link: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_de ... mange.html

What did your vet give you for medicine?

I think lots of people here have suffered through Demodex and gotten through it. Here's good thoughts for your pup!

Ivermectin is a good treatment for demodex. I've used it on one of my own dogs and on several shelter dogs in my care. I also give fish oil supplements and do soothing baths several times per week, but that is for the most severe generalized cases.

What vitamins are you using and what is Liv52? Do you have a link for that?

You can read about Liv52 here: http://www.super-smart.eu/article.pl?id ... omid=GG132

As for the vitamins and minerals, I give her Petphos Special Pelage.

I was not familiar with amitraz so i looked it up....

Is the Amitraz in cream form or a liquid?

Will she sit still enough that you can put the amitraz on a cotton ball, then gently dab it around her eye area?

If she's getting better without the amitraz, don't use it. It is nasty, harsh poison.

Hmm, I thought demodex didnt itch. I don't know very much about it though. Could her skin be dry? Maybe she needs a little fish oil added to her diet. I wonder if it would be ok to give her benadryl for the itching.

I would assume there is a secondary infection that causing the itching :|

Any time there is irritation in a non-sterile environment, you can almost bet on infection coming along :rolleyes2:

Demodex itches like a motherf*cker!

You can try using Benadryl topical cream around her eyes. The cream will keep the skin moisturized and help it heal faster, plus the Benadryl medicine in it will stop the itching. I've used it many times on demodex pups and it doesn't hurt or sting or smell too bad.

If you don't have the brand name of Benadryl, look for diphenhydramine hydrochloride -- that's the actual name of the drug.
