...A year ago today, Lucky Rocky was born to Asja. You all know the story by now. After a few days of being an EXCELLENT Mom, she got spooked and killed the puppies one by one by crushing their skulls. After she killed the 2nd puppy, we took them away from her. We took 3 away. Two of them died in my arms while I was trying to keep them warm while Greg went out to get formula. Rocky climbed onto my shoulder and fell asleep.
We got him to the vet, and found out that he, too, had been bit in the head, and was bleeding out through a wound in his mouth. We named him Lucky Rocky. Lucky because he was "lucky" to be alive; and Rocky because he was our fighter.
We hand-raised him, and we did he became vicious. As we started to correct him, he just became fearful of everything. But all the while he had this sweet side to him that would just cuddle with us. We know what he is, we don't fool ourselves...but that's okay.
He was supposed to be Greg's next competition dog. Now he is my dog, and is destined to be not much more than a pet.
So, here we are, a year later. And I want to wish my baby boy a very happy birthday. I made a promise almost a year ago to protect you and take care of you no matter what - I am keeping true to that promise. Happy birthday, Rocky. I love you!!
