Pics Added!! Emergency in WA state

Postby msvette2u » March 15th, 2006, 4:41 pm

Hi, most of you know I'm the ACO for a small town in Eastern WA.
I just impounded a female pocket pit type, (staffie?) with a suspected broken left hind leg. It could be an old injury that didn't heal correctly.
I cannot adopt her out with an injury, whether it's old or not.
We have BSL here that makes it difficult anyway for me to adopt her out.
I've contacted one rescue group thus far.
There's no charge for a rescue to pick her up but she needs out of here soon.
Anyone who can help, please let me know, here or PM me, or email me!

She is very obviously in heat and was picked up with a German Shepherd-she'll need spayed ASAP...

that looks like one burly right hind leg, I'll bet the injury is old. She looks very sweet, how much are you going to need to fix her up ? (no pun intended)

I think you're right, it may be an old injury. It doesn't seem fresh, I realized the blood on the other leg was from her being in heat, not an injury!
For her spay I'm not sure, it'll be more since she's in heat.

I don't know at all. But I have good news, Kaye Smith has a possible foster for her already! If so, she'll be able to vet the dog.
I'd have to have hubby look at it (he's a medic) to see if it's a fresh injury or old one.
This is the one she's limping on. That shadow isn't nuts, honest. My camera lens needs cleaned, sorry!
I don't see any outward injury to the leg. She just holds it up when walking.

If any area on her leg is particularly warm, then most likely thats the swelling from a recent injury. I'd think an old injury wouldn't have the swelling that a new one does.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for her!

Thank you!! It doesn't appear particularly swollen but then again she's very muscular. She's in heat so it is possible she's been, uh, through the wringer so to speak and just sore/messed up from that?

Can you feel a break or anything? Maybe it's a blown cruciate . . .

I had it in the back of my mind :nono:

hopefully it'll be something simpler and cheaper

xrays are the way to go.

Unless shes a very sensitive dog, I doubt its just something a little sore, I hate to say it, but Bullys are tougher then that usually...

Please keep us updated, shes a real looker! :D

You'll think it's real backwoods, but we don't have a vet "on board" and we have no $$ in the budget to get dogs treatment. That's why I'd like to see her gone by the weekend or early in next week at the very latest

I got yelled at for buying LIGHTBULBS for the shelter...there's no way they'd let me haul a dog to the vet for x-rays...

No no, not at all. You should see the hospital where I work, we're also pretty low budget, for a vet anyway...
I just meant when she is at her foster home ;)

Thanks! Kaye is working on a possible foster, and if anyone can get her into a foster it'd be her!
