It's for working dogs, or police K9s. The training thereof
I thought Demodick might like the site.
I do, very much. Thank you for posting. I've ordered from them in the past and they are really hard to beat for the money. If I had
any spare money right now I would be getting an agitation muzzle that actually fits my dog.
May be a little bit of a dumb question, but why...what...how...
agitation sticks and agitation whips?
The stick/whip is used in bitework to condition the dog to continue fighting the decoy (the "bad guy") even when he opposes the dog with a hand-held weapon. A Personal Protection or Police Service dog is pretty useless if the bad guy can scare him away with a stick. We want the dog to work through the stress of decoy opposition (physical and verbal) to overcome the decoy. If the dog is developed properly, he learns that there is nothing he can't overcome.
There are a number of different stick "types" and all have slightly different applications. The sport of Schutzhund is a kind of canine triathlon where the dog must show proficiency in tracking, obedience and protection. A padded stick is used for trials and the dog must bite calm and full while the decoy "drives" him by bringing his front feet off the ground, running with him, and striking him with the stick.
Here is a video showing one part of the Schutzhund bitework requirement including a drive and stick hits. I don't know who posted it up but it's on YouTube and shows what I'm talking about.
