Positive thoughts needed for my cat, Tiger

Postby Ellena » May 21st, 2007, 2:06 pm

Tiger is now 18 years old. He has been in my family since he was 5 weeks old.... I watched him be born as he was from a litter that my neighbor cat had.

Tiger lived with my parents until I was about 18 and got my own apartment. They had him as an outdoor cat and Jake and I had just adopted a cat named Orbit.... and we decided that Orbit needed a friend. Tiger deserved to be an indoor cat and so we took him home and he has been an indoor cat for 8 years now.

I had full blood panels done on him 2 1/2 years ago and the vets were amazed at how healthy he was at the time. He gets VERY stressed going to the vets office, he is actually quite a reclusive cat and spends most of his time on my pillow in my bedroom.

In the last week and a half, Tiger has lost quite a bit of weight. Enough that Jake and I are now panicking.

He is not eating much, we are now making him his own food, anything wet.... pretty much whatever we can get him to eat. The other nite I attempted to force feed him, but he was so stressed I just couldnt do it to him.

My vet thinks he should go sometime soon. Tiger is old and has outlived any cat I have ever had. Our hearts are breaking for our old man and the moment he seems in pain or lethargic, we will be taking him in to help him on his way.

For now, he is content to sit on my pillow and lick my eyelashes while I am sleeping.

Please keep Tiger in your thoughts, we will be lost without him.

Tiger certainly must have led a wonderful life ~ 18 years!

When my cat was not eating, I tried baby food. It worked for a few days, but then I knew it was time, as I am sure you will know when it is time.

He's very handsome! I know you'll make the right decision, at the right time.

I swear this is true! My friend, who was the Director of the private animal shelter I worked at, had a cat that lived till he was 30 years old. They got it when their daughter was born and it recently passed over.

I can't say he was a good-looking cat but he was older than hell. :)

I just now saw this thread. Sorry about your cat :( I grew up with a cat he was like 15 when he died I think. He was there from before I was born til when I was around 8 I think. That's pretty much the only cat I've ever been around or liked. It was pretty sad when he died.

Please, keep Jake and Tiger in your thoughts today and tomorrow.

We will be taking Tiger in tomorrow evening looks like to help him across the bridge. Tiger has been on LRS sub-q fluids for a week now with no improvement and is still not eating and now has stopped drinking as well.

I've had Tiger since he was a baby, but he truely is Jake's boy. Poor Jake is brokenhearted but we know it's time to let go.....
