PLEASE CROSSPOST!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Straydog, a no kill dog shelter in the South DFW area of Texas, was feeding 15 of their 100+ rescued dogs the Venison & Brown Rice dry dog food formula from Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance® Pet Foods, Inc. when they recieved an email warning dog owners that it was contaminated. At this time, not only was there no recall, but the company's website still stated that they were, "in no way affected by any of the recalls."

Outraged and scared, SD staff and volunteers prayed that this unfortunate event would not affect their dogs and immediately changed foods. That day, the formula was offically recalled by Natural Balance® but it was too late. The food had already begun to damage the dogs' systems. By Tuesday morning, less than 2 days since the recall, 10 dogs were in kidney failure
and that afternoon, we lost one. He was too old to fight the poison.

Rest in peace, Fritz, old man.

The other 9 dogs have since gotten much better but getting there was expensive. Days, and even weeks for one dog, of IV fluids while being boarded at a veterinary office has left Straydog in debt.

As of 05/07/07, SD owes
$12,168.60
to Morton Small Animal Clinic

I am asking that anyone who reads this please donate any amount of money towards the vet bill. Be it $1 or $100, anything is appreciated!

A lot of the companies that sold the contaminated foods are compensating pet owners/shelters by paying medical bills.

Tell them to look at the Natural Balance website. They have a "Claimant Questionaire" they can fill out. It mentions reimbursement for the actual food and a section on medical bills.
