Homer passed again

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby Image1 » February 19th, 2006, 9:18 pm

Just got back from the Lend A Heart evaluation. Homer passed. Now he is a Delta and Lend A Heart registered therapy dog. We've still got to work on his commands alittle and work on his skin clearning up. But he passed and can start visiting once the vet health verification is done.

Basically with Lend A Heart they go in groups. Most of there BODs and Membership committee members are also Delta. So there evaluation is the same as Deltas with a few added tests to see how the handler/dog will react to multipul dogs being around, multipul people petting at the same time.

I like Lend A Heart because they take the leg work out of finding a place to visit. They have many places that they visit as a group so all you have to do is let the group leader know that you will show up for that visit. This is a great advantage in some ways as I've had a hell of a time trying to find a place that we can visit. I've sent out many letters but no one has even called to tell us off.

We are still trying to get his skin cleared up from when we got him. Ever sense we've had him he hasn't had much hair on his rear end. Its getting better and the hair is growing back. They just want something from the vet stating that is it not a contagious problem. We may also have to have Homer wear boxers untill he is totaly fine so the people we visit don't think there is something major wrong with him.

Actually I'm am very proud of him.

For those that don't know Homers story, (Long story made short) he was a neglected dog by our neighbors. We got him last April, got him trained (Still have a long way to go as Homer knew literaly nothing) and got him registered through 2 different therapy dog organizations in 10 months.
