although its often hardly painful or not painful at all tooth decay(tartar/calculus) infections and teeth that become infected from chipping or cracking too far in (obviously not all chipped teeth need to be fixed, it depends on how bad it is) can lead to infection, if and when that infection migrates into the bloodstream, it can infect the muscles of the heart and cause heart disease; the relationship between the teeth and heart are closely related as in people.
The catch also is that once an animal has heart disease (or a heart condition) it also becomes much more risky to do surgery, so routine surgeries such as lump removals and teeth cleaning and extractions are a MUCH bigger risk (or a Dr. may simply not want to do them, period), for that matter so is any surgery that isn't optional. Plus the obvious down side of heart disease shortening the life of the animal, limiting it's activities, and probably at least a prescription or 2.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.
