Sticky Subject-Vet Bills

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

I dont mean to pee on your parade but I have some info that you may want to discuss with your vet.

1. The surgery doesnt always work
2. They can sometimes heal on their own, but must have lots of rest.

Have you talked with other vets about cage rest ect..

A friend of mine paid lots of money for ACL sugery and the dog(young rott) reinjured itself about a month later, he then put the dog on strict cage rest and she healed

I hope this helps.

I did ask how successful she was, she said it was extremely successful. She also told us we have to be VERY careful during recovery because they have a tendency to overcompensate on the good leg and then blow the ligament in that leg.
I dropped her off at 7:45 this morning. I was unaware she needed to spend the night. I'll be calling around 1pm to find out how she is doing and I will update you all then.

Thank you all for your support. I have just been a complete wreck and having you here has helped so much.

I would be a little crazy myself in your shoes. I am just happy you found a vet to work with you, that is so rare these days.

Alright, she's out of surgery. The tech said she is doing just fine (much more friendly with the females than males).
They replaced her cruciate ligament with a nylon phony, and she also told me that she tore her meniscus (sp) so they removed that, also.

I am glad she's going to be on her way to recovery soon enough. They told me it would probably be 3-6 months before she's using it 100%. She is so strong.

I'll post pictures when we pick her up tomorrow.

Thanks all!
