can i feed both???

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby mistee06 » May 27th, 2006, 5:08 pm

since i'm exploring all options i was wondering if i could feed both raw diet and dog food (i have decided on Merrick, since its the only GOOD dog food i can find here)....

i dont think we have the time and effort to feed raw in the morning (i'd like to feed 2 times a day)

but it looks as if everyone mostly gets the BEST results for their dogs when they feed the barf diet.....

i also would like any info on what ratios, what kinds of things you feed when feeding a BARF diet :)

please please educate me lol!!!

Yes you can! it is not advised ( although some people do it with sucess) that they be fed raw & kibble in he same meal but if you want to alternate you certainly can. Sara ( gfturtle) does & her dog is very healthy & looks great!

Raw and kibble digest at different rates which is why most feed them as seperate meals. I fed it in the same meal to BOTH of my dogs. All it made for was an extra poop or two a day. There was no excessive gas or diarrhea, no regurgitation, or anything like that. Though I do know that some dogs have more sensitive stomachs so it may be a better idea to feed seperately if your dog is one of those. It's up to you. But either way, there's nothing wrong with feeding raw and a high quality diet at the same time!!!!

I feed solomon kibble (nature's variety) in the am, and raw in the pm. If I don't have anything unthawed, or any canned salmon or sardines, vicki will get a cup of kibble as well in the am. It's fine to do both if your dog can handle it!
