How often can I give it? Inara's 46 lbs. I gave her 2 this morning in her breakfast (around 8, 8:30?). When will her next dose be?

A quick search turned up this - Use 5 grain (325 mg) aspirin tablets.

A 60 to 80 lb dog may be given one tablet twice a day (every 12 hours) or 1/2 tablet three times a day (every eight hours). A 30 to 40 lb dog gets half as much; a 15 to 20 lb dog a quarter as much.

I've never given aspirin to one of ours, so I have no personal experience

I give Rip and Xander 81 mg aspirin on their bad days...2 tablets for them at dinner, and they're around 40#.

I used this page for dosing:

She says 10mg/lb of bodyweight every 12 hours

Thanks guys! Glad I asked - I wouldn't have thought you had to wait 12 hours.

I was saving one of the links above and read this:
'Enteric coated aspirin is not recommended in dogs because about half the time the coating isn't digested and the aspirin is excreted whole in the stool.'

>> Hmmmm - so they mean regular, non-coated aspirin?

If you must, MUST use aspirin (or your vet has given you instructions to do so), make sure to give it with a meal.

Although I am not aware of a dosage, I can say that please rememeber animal doses are much, much smaller then ours, and overdose can do damage that is not reversible to their health - it is much easier to overdose pets on these medications then it is with people.

I hope her feet feel better soon :)
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Thanks, Malli - I popped a couple baby aspirins into her breakfast so she ate them right up with a meal. I'll see how she seems to be feeling before I give her more. I don't like giving her medication, but I was hoping it would help a bit for her. Wish she could tell me if it was helping or a waste!
