We just went through this with Trouble at the end of January. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=34457&start=0
They open it surgically and stitch the halves together to prevent 'cauliflower ear'.
We have a very reasonable Vet and was charged $300.00 USD.

:goodthoughts: coming your way.

My vet's receptionist figured they could probably lance it without anesthetic, so rough guess of $100. But its still $ we don't have.

Yes Joyce, Oscar's ear :p

The clinic knows you well right?... Can you do installments? This sucks. I hate aural hematomas... Put a faceless balaklava w/some tape stuck on the head on him afterwards, to keep him from shaking it.

Toughts for a quick procedure, quick ear recovery with no relapse and a wad of cash falling from the sky.

what? Relapse! Noooo! I didn't even know that happened. We're using a hole punch biopsy apparently so hoping it will provide enough drainage that won't happen!
Payment plan or not, I'll still have to pay it! Easier just to take the hit now and all at once for us, I think.

Believe it or not, I don't think he has any kind of ear infection, I think he might of whacked it on the glass coffee table - he regularly turns and hits his head on it or jumps off the couch and hits it on his way by.

well, off to bed for an early wakeup and 8:45 am appt. This is early for us!

We are being snowed in :( Appt cancelled. There is a clinic that I can walk to where I probably know the Doctor, going to try calling them when they open in 20 minutes.

In the mean time I have his head vetwrapped and a cone on. When I spoke to my vet this morning (when we had to cancel), he said every time he shakes his head it'll make it worse

ug. No vet at the other clinic either, and it wasn't safe for me to take him to the hospital, nor would have been a cost I could afford...
looks like we either try draining it but no anesthetic or just leave it, treat with pred and hope for no crinkly ear. And as much as I love my dog and his ear and appearence, I'm kind of thankful our pockets are light right now because it keeps me from putting a 10 yr old dog under anesthetic for basically cosmetic reasons. I thought about it and that just doesn't make sense.
