One of my friends who is a vet tech advised against trying another once since Inara was straining to poop but nothing was coming out. She said if she keeps fruitlessly straining, if there's an obstruction it's only going to make it worse. So I gave her her medication for the evening but now I'll leave her be. She's been a trooper this evening with me shoving things up her hiney and down her throat. So unless she poops tonight or tomorrow I'll drop her at the vet first thing tomorrow morning.

I was just checking in one more time before bed to see what the poop update was. I hope she goes soon. :(

check my FB post ;)

the kind of enema she will need is not something that you will be able to give, and I wouldn't suggest that someone do it without a vet's supervision.

If she was dehydrated when they gave the SC fluids then I highly doubt it was enough to fully hydrate her  They aren't really all that effective in dogs because you have to give SO much...

I'm thinking this isn't just related to the type of bone, a few dogs at work get raw frozen marrow bones and I regularly see super boney HARD poop in the yard - I have to think that so far its just been a "lucky" type thing...

I'd try and see if you can get a 60 cc syringe and mix a little apple juice with water and syringe it in the corner of her cheek, or if you've read this after she's already been to the vet then scrap that!

I hope she feels better soon!

Malli, haven't hopped on FB yet but re: the sub-q's, they let me do those instead of IV's because she wasn't dehydrated yet. They were more preventative. And she's still peeing, and her gums look good and her skin doesn't stay pinched.

Either way, back to the vet this morning as there's no improvement. :(

Thanks for the kind thoughts everybody, I appreciate them.

Dropped her at the vet this morning. They were less concerned about the fact that she isn't pooping than about her refusal of food and water. They pinched her skin and said she is a bit dehydrated. They're going to do x-rays on her and see if anything has moved and then take it from there.

On a good note, she perked up a bit this morning. Not much, but a little! So fingers crossed surgery won't be necessary and they can get things moving for her.

Vet called - the x-rays look fine, whatever that means. They managed to get her to eat a little bit of canned wet food with some water in it and said I'll probably want to buy a can or two to put with her regular food as enticement. Providing she keeps everything down I can pick her up this afternoon. And they said she may not poop for another day or two!

So thank you all for the good thoughts! They worked!

Glad to hear a good report!! Those no pooping days can certainly be stressful especially when those other symptoms are lingering.

agreed. I wouldn't be concerned except for the previous vomiting and lack of thirst and inappetance. Even if she wouldn't eat but was drinking water, that would be ok.

At least the vet is not worried about her not pooping. I have been wondering about her all day. Good update. Feel better soon pretty girl.
