Poor Inara :-(

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby pitbullmamaliz » April 20th, 2010, 8:09 am

I ended up just taking pictures of the x-rays on my computer screen because I couldn't figure out how to do anything else with them.

The circled part on here is her colon - it's so white because it's packed FULL of ground up bone. The vet was impressed it had made it to her colon.

The circled part on here is, I believe, her rectum - he was able to feel the bone fragments when he did a rectal exam on her:

Poor Inara

I hate those stupid knuckle bones. Everyone who sells them says they are fantastic but they have caused nothing but problems for Kayden too. Hopefully she will be making sidewalk chalk very soon and feeling better

Vet is getting me in at 10:15.

I'm so worried. This is my baby girl.

Back from the vet and fortunately all is okay (relatively speaking!). Inara does not have an obstruction, she just has an extremely irritated colon which is making her very lethargic and causing the bloody diarrhea. The vet gave her an injection to help with the irritation, and then pills for the next 2 days that will also help with the irritation. She said to give her some water with chicken broth in it but not to worry about food yet.

Poor Inara sooooo didn't feel well - she didn't jump on the vet and tech to say hello, she barely needed to be restrained, etc. She got lots of loving and sympathy there. And my grand total for her vet visit, rectal exam, injection and pills? $17. LOVE my vet.

Thank you all for the well-wishes - I was in a bit of a panic this morning. The vet said if she doesn't start perking up by tomorrow morning or if she vomits to take her back in but it looks like we should be good. :)

WoW, I think we'll start bringing T. and D. to your Vet. It would be a nice drive and still be cheaper.

Yea for good updates

Still no poop, liquid or solid, and she's not drinking. She also turned down a bite of banana. *sigh*

Time for an enema...??? The ones they use for babies, maybe???

Poor girl... I really feel for her. :sad2:

Don't give her any banana though... maybe try some diluted apple juice to get things "going"...
If she refuses to drink I would syringe some water every 30 minutes or so... the more dehydrated she becomes the harder it will be for her to poop.

She had subq fluids last night so she's not dehydrated - I keep doing the skin pinch and checking her gums, and she's still peeing regularly. That being said, I will begin force feeding her water this evening if she doesn't start drinking on her own.

I'm thinking about running to the drug store for an enema. Or trying the match stick thing. Both make me like I'll be molesting my dog, but she's not listening when I tell her she'll feel better after she poops!

I wouldn't do the match stick thing... an enema will be much less painful, since it helps ""liquify" very hard/packed stools. You don't want her to tear anything (inside) by using a match stick and "forcing" her to go that way. Baby suppositories are very safe and very effective. Wear gloves when you administer one.

I can't believe a knuckle bone could cause that many problems. :bs:
Mine are definitely done getting those.

Pedilax by Fleet. They are small and are gentle. Use vaseline when inserting. I have been sending good poop thoughts all day. Goodness, you would think she would have gone by now. Poor baby

Got the Pedialax enema. Didn't work. A little liquid came out but it was no more than what I had just squirted in. Methinks Little Miss is headed back to the vet tomorrow morning. At this point I'll be shocked if they end up not doing exploratory surgery. :(
