Not really, since no one here is advocating avoiding vaccines for fatal diseases. Quite the contrary, actually. Unless I missed it.

Absolutely a great point! I've seen more pups go through parvo treatment..... it's just horrible, especially considering it's preventable with a simple series of shots.

I've been lucky and never seen a dog or cat go through any stage of rabies, but I've seen many wild animals suffer through it, whether it's "quiet" rabies, the beginning stages, and all the way through the screaming wild rages and the poor animals on death's door. It will break your heart.

Heuh. What I interpreted here was that parvo and rabies cause pretty sh*tty deaths. And I agree with that. That's all.

The Dog Owners Revolution of 2009
By: Michael T Patton

The Ten Tenets of The Revolution

1. Dogs are the First Technology, Symbiotic to Humanity and Essential to Society
2. No Breed Bans. Repeal ALL Draconian Canine Legislation
3. Give dogs Maximum Freedom, Training, Praise and Exercise
4. Dog Training is Offleash Training
5. There are no Problem Behaviors in Puppies
6. Don't Donate to Those who Kill Dogs for Money
7. No Unnecessary Surgery or Vaccination. Tame your Vet.
8. Rabies is DEAD and So is Policy and Fear Based Upon it
9. PETA is an Enemy of Dogs and the Humans they Love
10. Dog Lovers UNITE! and FIGHT! In a Political Pack of epic proportions

"Overthrow the effigy
The vast majority
Burning down the foreman of control

Silence is the enemy
Against your urgency
So rally up the demons of your soul

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well gotta know the enemy"

GREEN DAY "Know Your Enemy" 2009

Here is the essential problem which necessitates the Dog Owners Revolution of 2009. Dogs are used as a tool, as a pawn by the powerful. They are demonized by friends AND enemies depending upon the goal. Always a crisis with dogs, because a CRISIS means money for the people hyping up the imaginary CRISIS! Thus the revolution.

The people who are supposed to care about dogs, the people who SAY they care about dogs, the people who get PAID to care about dogs are quite often their worst enemies. For example, Animal "Care" and Animal "Control" (aka exterminating) are the same department in most local governments across the USA. Thus the Revolution.

Most Humane type "Shelters" and "Societies" which house dogs in cages sign contracts with governments to exterminate dogs, yet market themselves as a place that saves dogs. You've seen the commercials with the sad lonely dog in the cage used to get donations on the one hand. Often times, the other hand is grabbing cash money from another source (the government) to kill that dog. Who is the real bad guy here? Do organizations who get paid to kill dogs care about them? Is that even possible? Can we trust anything they say about what is good for dogs or dog owners? Or about whether or not there is a crisis? Thus the Revolution.

In the Veterinarians version of the Hippocratic Oath it starts off like this: "Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society" The primary drive of veterinarians in the USA is not to benefit your pet. You fork out hundreds and thousands of dollars each year to your vet for the primary benefit of SOCIETY (and that's dubious). And often times the money making things the Vet tries to pressure and upsell you into actually cause you to have to go back to the vet for more treatment to try to fix the problem that the original unnecessary procedure created. Thus the revolution.

Law based attacks on dogs and their humans is relentless and the only way it will stop is for dog owners to UNITE! and FIGHT! as a political bloc who will vote independent of traditional party lines. Most canine law is based on fear, lies, demonization, and hysteria. For instance, it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get rabies from a dog bite in the US. Rabies was officially eliminated from the Dog population in the US in 2007, yet think of all the expensive, irrational and draconian law which is based upon it. Even in the past, rabies was never a major problem in the US. Millions of people have died from car accidents in the last 60 years. In comparison, almost no people have been killed as a result of rabies obtained from a dog bite on US soil during that time. If we take 80% of animal control budget and move it towards highway safety, we would TRULY be benefiting SOCIETY. Thus the revolution.

The only cases of human deaths from rabies in the USA from 1995-2006 according to the CDC . No dog bites occurred within the US. People were bitten in foreign countries and returned to the US.

Rabies is NOT, never HAS BEEN and NEVER WILL BE a major problem in the US. So GET OFF OUR BACKS!

Thus the Revolution.

As for PETA and other groups like them, look at what they DO, not what they say.

http://www.nathanwinograd.com/?p=723

Like most of these organizations, including the rich and powerful Humane Society of the US, they care about money and power, not your dog. That's the last thing they care about. Don't let them speak for you! Thus the revolution!

Dog owners Unite! And Fight! Join the revolution!
Do you know your enemy?

Ooook the vet oath misinterpretation is quite impressive here.

And when your cat goes of to a government lab to get his head cut and his brain sampled cause he's suspected of having rabies, never been vaccinated or titered, let's talk about the "f*ck rabies revolution* again. The aforementioned cat left one of my jobs in a plastic bag last week.

Are you saying you are someone who irrationally cuts off the heads of animals because of the irrational fear of rabies which rationally no one ever gets from a dog bite? What is your job title? "Cat Head Cutter Offer Level 7"

PS,
I don't advocate not getting your dogs vaccinated for rabies.
Just RATIONAL vaccination.

Well, remember the first kid Pasteur vaccinated against rabies? If I'm not mistaken, he got it from a dog.
So yes, dogs will give it to you.

Bats are natural hosts for rabies, as it will not kill them or affect their nervous system as it does in other mammals. When a bat enters your house, and your cat ends up at the emerg with neuro signs the next week, and ends up being euthanized (which you admits really sucks), that's when instead of being brought home to be buried, or group/privately cremated and give some sort of closure to the owners, he leaves in the plastic bag. Had he been vaccinated, it probably would not have been a bat-omg rabies! reaction but more of what-the-hell does this cat suffer from? type reaction.

I think vaccinating every 3 years, or making sure your animal has approptiate titer levels is of premium importance for the pet, it's owners, as well as the general population. Maybe we actually agree on this.

And the vet oath thing. My vet clinic has a diabetic cat that was dumped by the owners, and he lives there. We opened a file for him, and we add the costs of his daily insulin injections, boarding and blood glucose level measurings (not what it costs to feed him). His bill, since last april, is now 12 000$. My boss must be a real cheap bastard to let him live there. If you don't know what goes into caring properly for animals, please don't bash. Just like everyone else, they have to pay for supplies, staff and equipment. Some vets do overcharge ridiculously, but most do more good than you seem to think.

amen to that, 99.9% of Vets are decent, truly caring people - I used to work with like 25 of them!

Micheal :
Its not about the chance of getting rabies, its how the test is done; as mentioned previously in this thread (by me, I believe), the only way to test for rabies is to test brain tissue. The animal (once deceased) has to be decapitated and have it's brain tissue tested. An animal who's vaccine history comes into question who has bitten can be euthanized by order of the law in order to be tested(read: at the animal control or Judge's discretion). As for the likelyhood of contracting rabies, it is NOW an uncommon disease, but not nonexistent. Did you ever see 'Old Yeller'? Evidence of a different time when Rabies was more of an issue. Please keep in mind that Rabies IS FATAL. The only reason people overcome it with shots after being bitten is that rabies can sit dormant for quite some time in the system and the body builds up an immunity to the VACCINATION before the disease takes hold - a bit of 'Roulette' if you ask me!

I think the person who we're aiming this to isn't even reading, too busy causing trouble with people who can actually kick him out of here.
