Flailing leg - normal???

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby pitbullmamaliz » August 18th, 2009, 7:38 pm

So Inara was just washing herself, and all of a sudden her one back leg started really jerking and flailing around - like all the way extended to all the way contracted. Just rapid back and forth. Inara's eyes were big like she had no idea what was happening. I put my hand on her and called her name a couple times and she looked at me and then the leg stopped. So I went back to what I was doing, she started bathing again, and the leg started going crazy - it was actually booting her in the head. I grabbed her leg and called her name again and she focused on me and the leg stopped. It then happened one more time.

This has never happened before. She's up and walking just fine. I was able to snap it out of her, which is good because I was afraid at first she was having a seizure. But it was bizarre and kind of scary. Any thoughts? Was she maybe having a cramp? I can't believe I'm asking this, but do dogs have the big O? I mean, she was cleaning her hoo-ha...yes I know it's a crazy question, but I truly have no idea and am just trying to figure this out.

I haven't seen this before, so I can't say what it might be...but yeah, I've heard of male dogs licking themselves until "the big O"...(you put that so well).

My Inara has been cleaning herself more than usual lately...maybe they're getting secret Inara messages?

Ripley has been having random attacks of humping lately...(and he does NOT hump anyone/anything). He'll just be walking along, and suddenly his back end starts doing the humpty dance...and he just looks at me like this -----> I go touch him, and he stops.

I got nothin' :|

If it freaked you out that much, you might want to #1, video tape it, and #2, take her in to get checked out.

It might be nothing, and it might be initial signs to something major...

She hasn't done it since - if she does it again maybe I'll take her in to make sure it's nothing neurological.

She's reading your nerves about the DSO

I'd only worry about it if it happens a couple more times. Maybe it was like a really bad charley horse or something? :|

I have decided that Inara is indeed giving herself the Big O. She did it again tonight - licked her hoo-haw, her leg started going, and her eyes kind of half shut. Her leg stopped, and she started licking her hoo-haw again.

That's my girl!

Well, if Sorsha starts this behavior, you'll know who she's thinking of at least...

I didn't know that dogs could have "the big O" as you put it. Learn something new everyday. Guess that puts me in trouble with the new pup since he is already a big ball licker....gross.

Just another update 'cause this cracks me up. Last time I took Inara in for her shots I asked the vet, who managed to answer with a completely straight face, that yes, Inara most probably is giving herself orgasms. She's doing it almost nightly now, multiples. :giggle:
