Faust has Parvo

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby BigDogBuford » July 1st, 2009, 1:46 pm

Keep a stiff upper lip! My very first foster dog (Foster...how original was I?) was abandoned at the vet clinic I worked at with the worst case of Parvo the vet said she'd ever seen. He recovered and grew up into a beautiful big Rotti/Mastiff mix who lived a long 12 years. :)

So... I took the kittens to the vet (was told they can't catch Parvo! :D), and I peeked in on Faust... omg.   :sad2:
He looks like a bag of bones, and a tiny bag at that. He's too weak to move around much or even lift his head.
But, holy cow, that tail is going like crazy whenever he hears a sound/voice. I'm gonna take that as a good sign.
No vomiting, and no diarrhea as of late this afternoon. They haven't offered him any food, but he is being kept hydrated/medicated through the IV.
My vet says if he makes it through the night without any major incidents we can be "cautiously optimistic" that he will live.

I'm going to take that as an optimistic prognosis. Sending more healing thoughts his way.

At least now you have the kitties to keep you busy while he's away.

Come on Faust, you have a whole team of people rooting for you! I know it must be hard seeing him like this Christine, but he is in the best place he could be to be taken care of. We're here for you.

Holy smokes!!! I just saw this.

Best toughts ever for Faust - he will live through this. He's a tough little puppy, and I'm sure he is at his worst before it gets better... Hopefully the vomiting will stop soon and then he can absorb some food, IV fluids hydrate and give the necessary electrolytes but they still aren't food... He's not out of the woods yet but he'll make it.

Oh, Faust, get better soon, and Christine, attempt to keep your sanity... You're a great doggy mom. :hug3:

yeah, the no vomit and no diarrhea is very good.

I agree with what the vet said, too.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Well... during the night he dismantled his cone and ripped out his IV, while the vet tech on duty attended to another animal. She said she only turned her back for about 10 minutes... LMAO
This morning they offered him some food, and he was starving, apparently. No vomiting so far. Only a tiny bit of diarrhea.
The vet said he's "acting like a typical bully puppy, and he's all over the place". They couldn't believe the drastic changes they saw in him today.
If he keeps improving they will try him on oral meds and see how he does.
He might be coming home tomorrow or Saturday!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
