vomiting

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby lellis34 » May 31st, 2009, 10:12 pm

I came home from a bowling tournament to a sick little Miss Roxy. She's having diarreah issues and vomiting. Twice stomach contents came up, three times foamy mucusy stuff, then this last time just water. She's had loose bowels, and when I just walked her, very smelly diarreah. Any suggestions to make it stop? She was in her crate today while we were gone and I can't think of anything she may have gotten in to. Thoughts?

What was in the "stomach contents"?

Is she able to hold water down?

The first two times it was food and grass. Then it was just mucusy. Last time was water.

Where'd she eat the grass? Is it possible that she ingested pesticides?

she's part cow and has a tendency to graze while she's walking. We haven't walked anywhere new, and they haven't posted anything about spraying. They usually do that notice a few days before they spray. This just started tonight and don't think they did anything today. She's sleeping now. Thinking if she gets me up tonight we'll make a vet visit in the morning.

I'm concerned because its Diarrhea AND vomiting that she'll dehydrate really quickly...

You can try witholding food and only offering small amounts frequently, maybe 1/3 cup water every 1/2 hr. If she won't drink it, or she is still vomiting, then I'd say its time for a trip to the vet.

Its a bit of a slippery slope in situations like this, because waiting could end up prolonging treatment and actually costing more money, though I understand not wanting to run in to the vet at the "drop of the hat"
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

I agree w/a vet visit if she hasn't improved by morning. I think it's best not to take chances w/young puppies.

Sending some "get well" wishes for the little princess. :)

I agree 100%. Is she running a fever?

She seems to be doing much better this morning. She was running and playing like normal - last night she just wanted to lay on the sofa. She had some water and I only gave her a handful of food - which she kept down. I had to come into work, but she's home with hubby and he's keeping an eye on her.
