Kitty broken tail length-wise?

About a week and a half ago I accidentally slammed Niobe's tail in a drawer as I was closing it. She shrieked and hid under the bed until I crawled under to check on her. At the time, her tail felt normal and she didn't seem to be in extreme pain when I touched it. Since then, I've been kind of keeping a feel on it (I say "feel" instead of "eye" because she of course has crazy long hair) and it's felt normal and she doesn't care when I touch it.

Well last night I was laying in bed loving on the girls and I ran my hand down Niobe's tail, and it felt split at the end. Like it was a y-shape: -------<

She meowed when I touched it, but she's a talker. She meows literally almost every time I touch her. She's fidgety though so I wasn't able to use both hands to dig through her fur and look at it. I felt all around and it truly feels like part of the tail is split length-wise at the end.

Since she's not in pain, can I assume this can wait until I can get her into the regular vet tomorrow? Or do I need to call the e-vet?

She'll probably be fine until tomorrow. It would be a good idea to at least get her checked out, in case there is a loose/hanging piece of flesh that you're feeling at the "split".

Yeah, I'm definitely calling the vet, just wanted to make sure she'd live until tomorrow. She's acting normal (AKA crazy) so she's not in pain. Yay for no e-vet visit!

I do find it odd that shes NOT reacting...

It is possible that she may not be reacting because when there is trauma, the nerves sometimes go "numb" from swelling, etc. It seems to be an individual thing. :wink:

If the tail is still split, depending on the health of the skin and how much, if any, of the underlying tissue is exposed, she may need a small piece amputated. But, let's hope not! :wink3:

I once shut Fry in a drawer...he got behind the drawer and the back of the dresser...and I smushed his whole body. I tried to shut it, and it wouldn't close, so I shut it harder...then one more time, and he finally yelled at me! :oops:

Damn cats.

Once again I am the over-reactive mom! lol

What I was feeling was a giant scab that was stuck in her fur. I'm glad I went though because the Doc gave me antibiotics for her since it had obviously been bleeding a bit. So WHEW! The Doc also got a couple mats out of her fur for me. And my little bowling ball weighed in at 10.5 lbs.

You and me both! I already felt bad enough for slamming her tail in the drawer, but then to think that it might be broken in some bizarre way??? Ugh.
