pocketpit wrote:What's his gum color like? I'd be very worried too! Keep us updated, hope he's okay!

I had just read the SOS pad post so thought to check and they were OK. Good refill...what's odd is, he tenses up when I touch him at all from his ribs to his rear end - but on the SIDES of his body, not the spine. His...flanks look funny. They are bulgy...I can't explain it. I'm so worried he's got an infection or some tumor. He isn't peeing blood and until last night after we got home was doing actually, seemingly "OK" not better but holding his own.
I went to bed with him last night and he slept as comfortably as I figure he could. He's doing the same this morning. Resting OK but if I touch him he tenses up.
I don't KNOW - I can't figure out what is wrong - his abdomen gets "tense" if you feel it but when he's relaxed it comes down loose so I didn't think it was bloat or something. When he was asleep, I touched his tummy and he tensed it up again when he realized I was touching it.
He goes in at 8am. I'm going to ask them if I can stay for a while with him, if they can't get right to him. He's stressed out enough without putting him in a kennel and making him wait...
I thought last night he was going to die. I called Jeff and he didn't really want me to take him in but I told him, if he gets worse, I'm taking him. I really thought he might die and I didn't want him to go in pain like that...I mean - he went under the bed because I set him in the bedroom and I said Wait here and I'll lift you up, but as I came in here to turn out the light I heard him trying to get up, so I said "No, wait!" and I went back in and he was under there. I literally could not get him out, for a treat or anything.
I finally had to get the broom and "scoot" him out with it and he came out and I got him up on the bed where he still is now.

Well I dropped him off, I did wait with him until the vet came in, she gave him a muscle relaxant because he was so tense he was like a ball. We are now thinking it is his spine, she explained that sometimes it's hard to see a disc problem but she'd be Xraying his spine and all and the Xrays should catch if there's something else internal wrong.
Now I have to wait...
:lookaround:

eta) I miss him already. I saved him a bit of egg from my Mcdonalds breakfast sandwich and he isn't here to share it with me

Mabe he just has some inflammtion or such, and he'll be o.k.

Good luck.

Collapsed disc :(
He's got to be crated...(I'm on the phone with the vet now) He's got to be carried everywhere for at least two weeks...but he's going to be OK for now, he's got a dexamethasone shot IV and will be on prednisone...I'm going to go pick him up.

OUCH!!!!! I have disc problems in my upper back & deformed discs in my lower. Poor little bugger. I'm glad he can be helped. He'll enjoy being carried!

I can't get him until 3pm! or so. He's sedated (telazol!) I'm going to Walmart to purchase him a new crate, we don't really have one his size...he's never been crated, so...well...I'm SO not looking forward to hearing him cry because he's crated!
The Xrays didn't show any enlargement of any of his organs...and he can't have bloodwork until he's off the prednisone and everything so it will be at LEAST two weeks before they can do those things.

oh goodness, good luck.

if he gets worse rather than better over the next few days/weeks, don't wait to take him to a specialist . . . when JD had the disc problem in his back, my vet didn't really know what to do except provide lots of pain meds and muscle relaxers for him. when he got worse, she prescribed more . . . which in the end was a mistake because he was getting worse and needed more aggressive therapy.

good luck, poor little guy!

Poor little guy! At least you know what's wrong now, and can help him!

I agree with everybody else - poor little guy, but at least you know, and quite frankly, I think it could have been much much worse. Just don't give in to his crying in the crate - you'd feel worse then if he hurt himself further! Get a cute little bag to carry him in...

Although back problems can be bad I'm glad to hear it's something fixable like that. Poor little guy, no wonder he's so miserable!
And BabyReba is right, at the first sign of him getting worse, get him into the vet pronto! We have a neurologist and MRI unit at our facility and we see many cases of disk disease and other similar ailments. Surgery has the best odds of being useful if you don't wait.
Give Copper lots of hugs from everyone :)

Copper is home with prescribed crate rest, Diazepam (valium) and prednisone. He's already unhappy with the crate. :rolleyes2:
