But at least I scored one, right??
Some of you know that I have had a major problem with Sirius' excessive energy. He doesn't have any prey drive and hardly any food drive, much unlike the bullies that I am used to, so he has presented a special challenge for me. Additionally, when his energy builds up to much he gets antsy and obnoxious, and even a little agressive biting the cats and us.
Obedience (mental stimulation) helps a little bit, but because of his looooow drives he looses interest quickly. Walks just wind him up even more, goodness only knows why, and I can't run so that's not an option either. We start agility in the spring, but that was the soonest
we could get him in and meanwhile winters especially are really hard on us as a family with Sirius. Playing with other dogs helps, but it has to be other danes otherwise he mooshes them and well, I don't own any other danes!
Soooo..... someone suggested to me that I ride a bike and have Sirius next to me so that he can actually RUN and maybe that would help. The roads are finally dry so I decided to give it a try.
And? I WIN!!! After half an hour Sirius just flat out couldn't run anymore. My legs were jelly too, I had no idea that it was such a good workout for me!
I did run over him once because he cut in front of me, and I feel so bad cause I tore one of his pads off. But other than that he seemed to enjoy it, and I think we will be doing this more often. This evening he's not totally wiped out, but he is definitely kind of tired and a little calmer than usual. Maybe three or four times a week of this will have him acting like a normal dog!
