Yikes, Michelle, I am SO happy to hear that Riggs is okay (and hope that you're better after your wine).

My god, what a nightmare

I'm so glad things turned out well and you guys were able to keep your cool (not sure I could do the same). I am definitely going to research the Heimlich for dogs now.

Thanks for sharing

lol

I'm not sure I'll be able to do that. I have a feeling that he'd take great exception to that kind of treatment any other time than when he is dieing.

Ruby would probably let me do it actually. Not happily, but she's pretty tolerant of weird stuff from me. If we do it we'll take pictures.

Oh yea, he might not like that huh? Well if we can do that with Ruby, even with her lying down and take pictures that would be great.

Matt if you find any training on that in the area can you let me know?

An ass, just like always. :D

Both Demo and I have horrible headaches and feel very drained. I had nasty dreams all night as well. He drives me to drink (quite literally last night!) but the whole thing was aweful. It's hard not to hang on him and spoil him.

I was getting all mushy with him right afterwards, I wanted to just sit and hug him. Demo said "he doesn't know what happened, you don't have to comfort him" yes, he was right, but my response was "I'm not doing it for Riggs I'm doing it for me and I'm more important right now."

When we were done with our little love fest, and I was calmer, the mess finally registered. Demo was already cleaning up the crate and on the floor. There was pee, stink, vomit, foam, the bone, the bone chunk and other fun stuff.

One interesting note, as soon as we got it out and he was breathing clear, I put him down on the floor to flip him upright so I could carry him normally. The first thing he did was try to grab the chunk of bone again. :rolleyes2: I

I would probably need a week to recover from something like that.

If you get enough people together for a class, the Red Cross people will come out to your place for a very reasonable fee. All of the staff here at Roscoe's are doggie CPR trained.

Ugh - my dad demonstated the heimlich to me (ON ME) when I was a kid - that's the last time I let him 'show' me anything like that! What an aweful scare. I'm so glad you and others post these horror stories - they so help the rest of us with the reality check! Glad to hear all is well. I didn't realize it was supposed to be upside down - when my Ruby choked, I did it like you would on a person but then I dropped her as I went to check on how she was doing (sorry girl) - who knows if it was what I was trying to do (the heilmich) or what I did (dropped her) that worked! She was acting like she was choking and then stiffly keeled over with all 4 feet sticking out straight - that's what sent the lightening thru me and she hardly weighed an ounce when I first picked her up.... I tend to ignore most noises for just being 'noises' vs serious things that should be checked on. Good lesson there!

michelle you are so lucky you were able to get that out! You might want to keep an eye on him in case he has any cuts in his throat. Sometimes the food gets caught in a fresh one and they can abscess. Happened to a Sheltie we had and it was gross. The abscess not the choking.

The local 4-h clubs sometimes have the cpr classes, maybe if you have one local you can attend that meeting?

I'll bet it does make a mess when two humans and a dog all pee on the floor at the same time.... :P

Glad everything 'came out' OK :)
