tail docking...

Okay My friend has a 9-10 week old rottie. whos tail is not docked ( puppy mill pup ), and he wants to get his pups tail docked. I told him hes to old and would be very painful, and too young cause they cant use anesthetiques properly on him.

now im wondering what ur opinions are on tail docking on rotties and are they usually done for the dogs safety or purely for aesthetics?

With the exception of an injury, docking is purely astetic.

that pup is FAR too old to have it done by banding, so it would have to be done surgically. He is not too young for anestetic, many vets do pediatric neuters, it can be docked when he is under for that. (I am assuming that your firend is not planning to breed a puppy mill dog)

The sooner the better though, puppies heal very quickly compared to adult dogs.

another thing that bugs me is that the pup isnt very friendly with other dogs at all!!! hw snarls growls yelps hides yaps...etc.. when other dogs get a little close. on walks hes fine with my pup when in the hous etheir fine until my pup wants to play with him he gets all crazy and stuff and hides and does the above.

he is getting better we're brinign him to the dog park everyday, as with my pup. so far no accidents there that i have seen theres about 4-5 other pittie pups from 3 months-5 months old. a HUGE pit mix, im thinking pit/cane corso.

we're trying to socialise the rottie pup more and more hes real lazy for a puppy he just finds a hole (literally) and lies in it while the other dogs run around and play. he knows sit down and come (well come as much as a 9 week old pup can understand).

he also soo cute with the tail, shame if he gets it docked.

First - stay out of the dog park. It sounds like the Rottie has some fear issues and uncontrolled interaction at a dog park is just going to make them worse.

What is his excuse for not neutering him?

I agree. Dog parks are not safe places to begin with, add in fear issues....
