They cut off her nipples!!

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Geez...I picked up our little cat from being spayed two days ago and it seems that when they shaved her stomach for the spay, they cut the tips off her nipples!! What is up with that!??? Is that normal or should I be mad!??

I've never seen that before on any of the dogs or cats I have had spayed & it sounds pretty painful. I'd be pissed!

I just got my kittens spayed about 2 months ago...and they still have their nipples....

I've never seen that....

I'd be pretty pi$$ed...I'd call them...obviously there's nothing you can do (not like you can get them back), but it seems unnecessary, and just more "wounds" that you have to hope heal correctly

In all of the vet hospitals I've worked at, and the groomer's too, there was only ever one incident of that and it was purely an insane accident and we called the owners right away.

Why would they not tell you? It's not like it's not noticable. Rediculous!!

I'm going to have to go there. It's some 35miles away (one way) so I'm not happy about that either. My poor kitty :?

I took the cat up there, he just said yeah it looked as if he'd nicked them (the one especially) and "sorry" that was about it. I was very unimpressed. I told him it looked very careless and he just said "OK". He said he'd rather get too close than leave hair and have it give the cat an infection. :|

:( poor kitty, I can't see the picture from work, but I'd not go back there. With that kind of reaction and unconcern I'd probably thrown a fit, and definitely would take my business else where if I could. Hope she feels better really soon!

That sucks.

We've nicked nipples before during the pre-surgical clip, but never badly, and we always let the owner know.

I'd love to see his reaction to that...

I understand the need to get close....but, seriously...was that necessary...and how come there are many doctors out there who don't cut off the nipples?

Oh-- and he squeezed them and says "Well they don't seem to be painful to her".
He seemed to "blame it on her" for having "small nipples". I said "Well thats because she's never had a heat!" All four nipples are "nicked". The tips seem to be gone.
I told him of your reactions on here and he didn't say anything. He didn't look at me very much...

Send him a complaint in writing by registered, certified mail. That way, if she has any problems with them because of it he can take care of the vet work for free.

Oh that is a good idea. I know it bothers her because she's licking them as well as the incisions.
I mean - if you touch her incision she doesn't go thru the roof either but that does not mean it doesn't hurt!
