East Hartford (WTNH) - Police in East Hartford have shot and killed a man who they say stabbed a K-9 dog. An officer was also injured during the incident.
Officers were responding to a call at a home on Woodlawn Circle.
They tell us when they got there, they could hear screaming coming from the second floor. The suspect had just punched his girlfriend and she was bleeding.
Officers ordered the man to put down the knife he was wielding, but he didn't.
They sent in Primo, a K-9 dog, and the man stabbed him several times.
Police shot the suspect after he continued to refuse to put down the knife. He was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he later died. The man's name has not yet been released.
East Hartford police officer Todd Mona suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. Police have not said how he was hurt.
