Investigators in Ontario County have made a grim discovery. A human foot was found at the Casella Landfill in the Town of Seneca. It was found on the recycling conveyor belt.
Police were called to the landfill at 8:50 Monday night. Investigators say it's someone's right foot. The ankle's still attached. Investigators are trying to find out where the foot came from. That's no easy task. It arrived on a recycling truck that could have come from 15 counties in the state or Canada. "We're looking at a list of haulers. We're looking at the counties. We might be able to come up with something that'll help them zero in or become specific," said Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero.
According to investigators the foot arrived at the landfill sometime between Saturday and Monday. It's now at the Monroe County Medical Examiner's office. They're hoping to possibly link the foot to a missing person through DNA.
Investigators spent most of the day looking through recyclables for more evidence. Police don't know if the foot belongs to a man or woman. They say it doesn't appear to be a child's foot.
