I dont really want to even see the post about Dog Parks. Its like clockwork, every couple months or so...on another board its either, "my dog lunged viciously at another person" or "why can't I take my pit bull to a dog park" But here is my experience with DUMB people and offleash dogs.

Everyone knows the story of how Buster and Ginger were attacked by an offleash dog. (no we were not in a park, but there is really no difference) Well, after I broke up the fight, the damage to the attacking dog was pretty bad. The next day when I went by the dog owners house to see how she was I saw the dog with open wounds and looking like she was in a great deal of pain. I said to them "Why haven't you taken your dog to the vet yet?" Or something to that effect. Her repsonse? Ludocris - "we didnt want to take our dog to the vet cause if we do, they will put YOUR dog to sleep" My dog, the dog who was leashed, the dog who was protecting ME from their psyco dog. Now isnt that crazy? But thats how people think! They think 'Its a pit bull, so all the blame lies with it'.

Michelle - Your story was just madness. People are flipping idiots and you my friend (tears and all) acted bravely. Thank goodness no one (or Ruby)was hurt.

Anyone who truly knows this breed would never even consider going to a dog park. That's way too much risk for something that isn't even necessary. :mrHappy: :biggun:

Ridiculous. Idiots ruin this breed. You all know I was pretty much banned from that forum for hitting a sore spot and disagreeing. What happened to freedom of speech? I agree with everyone here- just don't do it and nothing can happen that could've been prevented. But unfortunately, particularly the person Jaime was disagreeing with doesn't play with a full deck.

Good!! thats what we are aiming for, a GOOD place for people to talk about the breed, learn, share, serious owners.... the only way things will get tough is if anyone badmouths anyone without 100% sound proof.. if no proof can be verified, no one can mention any names at all no matter what... we want this place to be the BEST place around.. you have a question, ask, you have a problem, pm a mod or administrator, we will help anyone out..

Ok..I think I missed that thread..but I don't generally do dog parks...
for sanitation/health reasons..and you never know what kind of jerk will show up...I go once in a long while but when someone else shows up I leave...it is not really worth the potential trouble or illness.

I have given up... these people are a headline waiting to happen.

I really think you need to expect a rescued pit bull type dog to have a degree of dog aggression that would make it impossible for off leash romps with most dogs, but there are exceptions and that can be acknowledged after careful assessment of the dog's temperament.

God, I have enough trouble avoiding idiot dog owners just walking down the street or at my local "normal" park. Why in the world would I purposely go seek them out at on off-leash park? :rolleyes2:

ps. ultimately it is the individual owners' choice as to whether or not to frequent dog parks, is it not?

come on, people! mantra or no mantra..."pitbull" bloodlines have been so thoroughly diluted that I am of the personal opinion that you CAN trust the occassional dog not to rip apart your neighbor's terrier.
in other news: I'm tempted to do some sociological studies on pitbull owners.
I'm thinking the dogs aren't the only ones with aggression issues...

Ok Im scared again and I dont want my dog to play with other dogs even ones I know at this point. I dont want to read anymore

I'm sorry you don't know me or my dog. She is not a fighter!

I love the dog park, but haven't been in a while. I know Capone and he has not one ounce of aggression and always does wonderfully around other dogs.

not my capone....

I think we have done the breed some good p.r. at the park.

My point is she is very socialized and loves going to the (off leash) park. Both my dogs start crying when we turn on the street and all the rest of the mile to the park. We have never had an incident and have made several friends there , both human and canine. I feel that if another dog started a fight and she fought back everyone at the park would back us up because they aready know us. Other dogs have tried to start something, on rare occasion, and my dog comes in between my legs, almost like mommy help me. My lab, on the other hand, will put the other dogs in their place and then it's back to play.My girl and I have a pack---
I don't treat her like a pit bull and she doesn't treat
me like a blonde.

all words of "wisdom" from that place. it gives me a headache :x  :beatComp:

All these people "know" their dogs and they'll be the first ones to say their dog "just snapped" and put their dog down when it attacks another because of their stupidity.

And this from admin:
Because this breed is in crisis, we're not going to disallow intelligent conversation on how to best own it by going in to a police-state mode of mandatory pit bull ownership -- there are other groups out there that do that quite well, and that's not the path we're going to take.

people learn much better by intelligent conversation, not by force-feeding them someone else's ideals, and here, we reached our conclusion through intelligent conversation, not hyperlinks and edicts --
