Shades VS the fan

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby ParisStreetPitCrew » June 18th, 2006, 1:21 pm

Since it has been getting warm lately, we started turning on an oscillating fan in the bedroom at night.
Every other night or so, Shades will wake up in the middle of the night and start barking at the fan. He sees it moving and it spooks him, I think. So I get up, turn on the light so he can see it and then we go back to bed. I would be ok with it if it happened once or twice, but it's getting kind of ridiculous. Why can't he remember that it is just the fan? He's fine when we go to bed. :|

LOL! I'm no help, my dogs want to lay in front of the fan. Of course, all of mine don't move! I can only imagine how much the fan's life span would be shortened by if it actually moved LOL!!!

We're going to try putting it into a stationary position tonight. Then if he sees the shadow and it's not moving, maybe he won't startle? We'll see.
I think he rides the short bus too. 8)

Here's his dork picture:

Reno has been drinking a bunch of water as soon as we lay down to go to bed at night...

right when I get all comfy and don't wnat to get up to stop him.

He then wakes ME (not hubby) up at 1:30 am.

They're out to get us and rob us of sleep, I tell you. It's a plot, and they're all in on it.

Aww, mine were pretty good and let me sleep in an extra 45 minutes this morning! I'm always amazed when that happens. They're usually tickling my face with their whiskers saying "FOOD, FOOD, FOOD!"

maybe its the fan randomly blowing stuff around (like curtains) as it moves back and forth?

:| I dunno, my dog has never had the "barking at something rediculous" issue.

funny, I was just talking about this at work last night with a co-worker about his Bullmastiff...

At least he's barking AT something. Mine has barked at an empty corner more than once...

which is honestly kind of freaky. :o

That was my initial thought, but he is actually staring at the fan and barking. :|
He does bark at random things and it drives me nuts sometimes. When we had a utility door installed in the side of our garage, Shades would freeze and bark at it everytime he went out into the yard. It took him about 5 days to realize that it was not threatening him, I guess. :hammer:

lol Yeah, he does that too. He likes to look at the ceiling a lot, like he's watching something move. Sometimes he'll give low deep growls at the ceiling. Creeps me out.

I did try this last night and there was no barking. It's too soon to say if the problem is solved or not, though, because he'd do it every other night or every few nights. :elephant:

Either way, I was happy without him waking me up last night.
