Beautiful dogs! Congrats! You'll have to post more pics of Pepper, she is lovely. And we already know Patcheeno is such a handsome fellow...

I've studied breedings and such for many years even though I am not a breeder. Do you mind posting their pedigrees? Is this a line breeding or an out cross? What do you expect from this breeding, yeah I know puppies of course, but I am wondering if you are trying to tighten up on a certain bloodline or trait?

I hope you don't mind the questions, I am not trying to be nosy or mean, I just like to learn more about how one puts together a quality breeding. And so few do it right these days so that's why I am hoping you'll share some of your knowledge with us.

I am interested as well, gf turtle. It seems like there is so much thought that goes into a responsible breeding, it's really interesting to learn about.

I don't think you are being nosy or mean at all. Ask whatever you'd like

The breeding is an outcross. Both Patcheeno and Pepper are tightly linebred.

Crystal did a ton of research before contacting me a couple of years ago. It is Pepper's second breeding. Her first one was a linebreeding.

First and most importantly we are looking for the pups to have strong solid temperaments, and overall good health and structure & good working drive.

Crystal Pepper's owner would like to downsize a little. Pepper is a tall female and some of her line are on the bigger side. Patcheeno and his line are very standard in both height and weight. They both compliment each other well. I can pick apart the dogs point for point and email exactly what I mean if you want. Let me know. Hopefully, what we are striving for will be reflected in the pups.

Here is what the pedigree for the pups will look like:
http://www.patch-o-pits.com/breedings.html

here are links to more pedigree info on Patcheeno:
(funny as I do not have a membership with this site and someone else entered my dog there for some reason. I guess they wanted to see his pedigree. I was glad. It helped me out. They do not have all his health testing and title info on it and also my name is not correct, his color info is also wrong... because I am not a member on there I can not fix it)

She is really an outstanding dog! I cant wait to see what they produce!

Although I love what I have... I wish I had waited to see this litter.

Thanks. I know how she produced last litter; I've watched them grow up.

But, since it is not a line breeding this time around, it is harder to know how they will produce

I know I was hoping to send my co-own baby to you. Jaime sure is a cutie though.

Ahhh, thanks for the info on the breeding and the pedigrees. They are both lovely dogs and it will be interesting to see what you get. Line breedings are more consistent but out crosses can be very good.

Did you have a longer pedigree on Pepper? Is she line bred too?

That's pretty neat that someone put Patcheeno on Peds on Line. You can really look at a bloodline on there as long as the info entered is right. He's linebred on his dam, Doreen's Bojo, isn't he? She is his dam and his great grand dam too, and one of her littermates, D&F's Brooklyn is also a great grand sire which keeps the line pretty tight.

I like Peds on Line because you can click on any name in a pedigree and you get that dog's 4 generation lineage, you can really trace one pretty far back.

Nice pic of Pepper, she's a big girl. I met Cheryl Larum way back in the late 1970s early 1980s. She has nice dogs but even back then they were bigger than I wanted. We had driven out to CA from FL to look at dogs and we saw some great ones. I ended up with a game bred Heinzl dog, I've always liked those little 30 pounders.

Thanks again for posting the peds and why you're doing this breeding. It's very nice to see breeding done right!

I had looked at his litter at 2 weeks... and even though I liked him then, I decided to wait...
but since I keep my dogs all together I started seeing social frustrations that really needed to be addressed by adding the right personality to balance them out. James happened to have that right energy.
I decided to chose the pack-mate my dogs needed, instead of the beautiful, typy, drivey working dog (maybe James will be a working dog someday, but typy or drivey he is NOT) that I was looking for in your line.
Thats why I didnt get him until 12 weeks. If his temperament, and persoality, wasnt exactly what I wanted, I would have waited. MELLOW confidence is a hard thing to look for in a bully pup. I would expect to find much more energy and drive in your dogs (although I havent met them yet).

Maybe someday in the future I will be lucky enough to get one of your pups. Maybe if you ever repeat this breeding, or breed the offsping.

I would love to see, and keep an eye on, this litter though.

No problem. :)

I have Patcheeno's seven generation pedigree from ADBA, but the online ped can get you further back. It is very interesting indeed, plus you can sometimes get lucky and see some picts as well. Yes, he is very tightly linebred on both sides of his pedigree
I LOVE his sire and really wanted to buy him when he was a puppy, but at the time they wouldn't part with him, so I waited until he produced a litter.
Bojo is Mickey's Grandmother. They have since sold him and I have no clue where he is. I saw several of the dogs in his line in person before taking Patcheeno home with me. Besides Mickey& Bojo, I also got to see Felony, Brooklyn and Mecca.

I wish I would have taken pictures of them. His breeders promised me picts, but then moved away and don't keep in touch.

As for the outcross,
When you can't get what you are looking for in a line breeding or need traits that are not in the line you have to pull from another and hope everything lines up how you plan.

Crystal did not really get what she was looking for in the first breeding which was a line breeding. There were some gorgeous pups, but just not what she was looking for in the breeding. Patcheeno has never produced a litter so we can only go off of how the dogs in his pedigree have produced at this point

Yes, Pepper is Tightly linebred as well. I do not believe that her pedigree though is on the online ped site. Crystal can send you a longer version of what is up on the website. There are some more picts of her here too. She actually isn't very big at all; weight wise she is standard, but she is just taller.

http://www.angelfire.com/hi5/worknk9/pepper.html
Her e-mail is on the website

Outcrosses seem to work best when both dogs are tightly linebred IMO

FYI my Samurai and Sock-M are an example of what can be produced by outcross breeding. :)

This will most likely be Pepper's last breeding. Maybe the offspring if they are proven worthy will be bred somewhere way way way in the future. I'd like to keep his line going as there aren't many dogs around like him.

Patcheeno can be mello and just hang out, but also has tons of drive if that makes sense LOL :|
A picture tells 1,000 words:
http://www.patch-o-pits.com/therapy.html

Jaime is still a baby he may be a late bloomer with his drive.
