Oh, the things you'll hear in a vet waiting room from some clients to other clients with their seniors is just hair-raising. Especially when people actually come to euthanize an animal and some insensitive prick comments on how sick he/she looks... Gah. Just shut your trap.

On a positive note. I love seniors too. Especially old goldens that remind me of my mom's 16 year old golden, those just MELT my heart. Oh and those saggy, tired but sweet eyes...

Balls, my dog is getting there. He just turned 9.

We see the occasiolal one at 15-16-17 years old but usually that's tops... Most of the time hey go at around 13-14.

I got asked how old Aussies live today in fact...I mentioned that Rip is 13 1/3..."oh, how old do they typically live?" I know people mean well, but it is hard to deal with at times...:|

I was at a therapy dog visit with Ruby, one of the Girl Scouts asked me how old she was, and when she would die. It was creepy, and very sad.

The young girl that helps me/trains with me...asked me what would happen to Ripley now that he's old. I was baffled...'what do you mean?" She said that she'd never been around an old dog, they've always been stolen, run off, hit by cars...she honestly didn't know what would happen with him. I told her that he'd keep doing what he was doing...eating, sleeping, playing...until it was time for him to go. She was sad, but fascinated at the same time. I've been keeping her updated with details on how he's doing...because she's now a bit worried about him too. :(

I guess I'm so used to people saying thoughtless/hurtful things about my dogs already because they are bullies that it doesn't faze me too much when they comment on their age. Most of my dogs are between 5-10 so they're starting to show their age.
