Question about Eye Gunk.

So normally Baku has average amounts of crusties in his eyes whenever he wakes up. Sometimes though, they're HUGE and it isn't a crusty any more... it becomes a gunk. Usually it's just 1 eye with gunk, though.

I took this picture on my way into work as soon as I saw that he had a bunch. It's actually under both of his eyes.



I clean his eyes like 2-3 times a day to clear the stuff off, but what's causing there to be such a large amount? Should I take him to the vet, or is this normal?

I'd run him in to the vet...I'm guessing he's got some sort of allergy that's underlying and causing this symptom.

Rip has an allergy to leaf mold...so during the fall, when the leaves are all on the ground, his eyes get runny...same goes for the spring, as he has slight allergies to the pollen. Winter and summer, he's fine!

Since it's kind of green I would take him to your vet. He could have clogged tear ducts. Seth had that when I got him and then he gave it to my other dog LiLo. I think they get clogged due to inflammation/infection. They will probably give you Neopolydex drops if that is the case and that should hopefully take the inflammation down and clear the ducts. If not they'll need to be flushed under anesthesia.
