Protection training..I need someone to call me ASAP!

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby Moe » February 10th, 2009, 2:22 pm

I know a few people have had their dogs protection trained...I need to speak with someone who has done this and that I can trust to tell me the ins and outs of it...This is not for me in a way, but I have an issue I need to address with full knowledge..When you call I will explain the whole senerio and will ask what you think...I need help and to be fully aware of what I am talking about when approaching this person...I am a wreck right now, and I know what this person is doing, is not right..

Please call me! Someone, I know there are a few people who have done this protection training properly and know what they are talking about...

I truly appreciate it! PM me for contact info.

The guy who adopted Bucket is protection training him, and he thinks he can do it in 2 to 3 sessions, now I do not know much about protection training, and the "trainer" he is speaking with says since Bucket is an American Bulldog he just wants to do those few sessions for him to "get it"..Now again I have NO experience in this what so ever, but in my time working with dogs for over 12 years, you can not even obedience train in 2 to 3 sessions, let alone train a dog to do protection work..I am highly upset at this, because I spent so much time and training with Bucket, just for this guy to ruin him..Now I do not care if he protection trains him, but he is not going about it in the right manner..It is a long process, with anything having to do with ANY training...
When I checked this guys refs, they where great, no mention of anything..He told me he had a boxer before this that he just lost to cancer at the age of 12 yrs old...The boxer had aggression problems (to find out later this same trainer whom he wants to train Bucket, trained the Boxer) he never mentioned this...He just stated to me that he took the Boxer to a trainer and no one could train it..Now I am thinking he had the dog protection trained and the "trainer" has no clue what he is doing...

I am so upset by this I want to vomit...When I was at the guys house doing the home check, I got this weary feeling in my gut, but I thought it was me being selfish, because I am so attached to Bucket..And told myself not to be an ass..Well now I wish I would have went by my gut instincts...
I have yet to hear back from him...I will let you know if I hear anything...

I have an adoption contract, but heres the thing in PA dogs are property, and he is not being abused...I mean if he was doing it right, I wouldnt have a problem, but he's not..And I have a problem with that..After talkin to Sis about it, he is not doing it the right way, and he is going to create a ticking time bomb...Sis feel free to chime in here on what we talked about too..Its cool..

Isn't "not doing it the right way" a form of abuse??? :?

Creating a ticking time bomb is definitely not in Buckets (or anyones) best interest. :nono:

I just sent Moe an PM...you can definitely not protection train a dog in 2-3 sessions...

Now, what i will say is that some people refer to teaching a dog to alert on command as protection training (it's not)...you can definitely teach a dog to bark in a couple of sessions. However, to teach a dog to bark in response to a threat, you still need more than 2-3 sessions...

I would like to know who this trainer is, if possible...
