Nope, I think it was an American Bulldog. Could be wrong, but pretty sure I read that somewhere... :|

"Chance" was an American Bulldog.

I've read that book. I haven't seen the movie.

My Dog Skip is one of the best ever movies.

Winn Dixie is good too.

Milo and Otis!!!!!!

And Oliver and Company . . . though Oliver may be a cat there are plenty of doggies in there. I skated to the song that the poodle sang (Bette Middler) when I was 10.

Okay there is an awful movie with the incredibly talent-free Patrick Swayze. It's call "Black Dog".

The dog in the title is a wide, low black pit bull who is supposedly guarding the contents of a truck for a bunch of criminals.

The dog is very charming and amusing, never made to look mean or aggressive although Patrick seems a little chagrined at his first look at it. At least I guess he was, since he is not the most expressive actor out there. :D

I was a little leery to watch this movie, but it culminates with a little girl wrapping her arms around the dog[s neck, and is very positive.

Get ready to FF many of the other dogless scenes.

The second one had a Bull Terrier but they called it a pit bull and made that dog and the Dobie villains. :x

The original Incredible Journey is a wonderful movie if you can hold of it. In that version (and in the original book) the dog was an English Bull Terrier named Bodger.

The ORIGINAL movie of "The Incredible Journey" is excellent and very true to the book by Sheila Burnford, the dogs and cat do not talk and it's a lovely film, it has a yellow Lab, an English white Bull Terrier (the remake does have an American Bulldog instead), and a Siamese cat.

For other good Bull Terrier movies, try "It's A Dog's Life" based on Richard Harding Davis' book "The Bar Sinister" about a Bull terrier from the fighting rings who makes good and becomes a show dog.

And there is "Baxter", based on the book of the same name, this is an odd one about a rather evil Bull Terrier... Plus the short film by Tim Burton (Nightmare before Christmas) "Frankenwienie" another Bull terrier.

A good old dog film is "Good Bye My Lady" based on the book of the same title by James Street, about a boy living in the southern swamps who finds a Basenji and trains her to hunt and beats the local hunting dogs, but Lady the Basenji is a valuable show dog that was lost, and she is eventually found by her show owners.

Chevy Chase's "Oh Heavenly Dog" is a fun one, Chevy Chase is killed off early in the film and comes back as a dog and has to solve his murder, so he ends up being the dog's voice. It stars "Benji" which is actually the daughter of the original Benji that was on Petticoat Junction TV show.

Of course you have a lot of Disney movies with dogs like "Big Red" about the Irish setter, "Nikki of the North" based on Curwood's book "Nomads of the North" about a husky and a bear; "Savage Sam" which is the sequel to "Old Yeller", and more.

And who can forget "Lassie Come Home" based on Eric Knight's book, the book Lassie was actually based on a border collie.

There was a movie called "Won Ton Ton" about a German Shepherd in Hollywood in the 1920s.

I'm sure I will think of a few more doggy movies!

A few other animated ones are "Balto" and "Balto 2", and even Rodney Dangerfield did one called "Rover Dangerfield". Plus the Disney original animated "101 Dalmatians" and "The Fox and The Hound" based on an adult novel of the same title.

More dog movies... "Hambone and Hillie" about a lost dog and how he gets home.

"A Dog of the Flanders" about a Dutch dog and his boy, based on the book by Ouida from the 1890s.

"Dusty" about an Australian Kelpie, based on the book by Davison of the same title.

"Greyfriars Bobby" about the dog who stayed on his master's grave and was adopted by the town.

"Fluke" about a man that dies and comes back as a dog to help his family.

"The Ugly Dachshund" a Great Dane thinks he's a Doxie...

And of course the classic "Jock of the Bushvelt" about a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in Africa around 1900. The 1986 movie is supposed to be a lot better than the 1992 one. Only the 1992 one is on DVD so far. The book is excellent too.

"The Ugly Dachshund" a Great Dane thinks he's a Doxie...

 Hey! You beat me to it!

Anyways, "The Ugly Dachshund" is one of my favorites!
And I'll forever love:
"Old Yeller"
"Sounder"
"Big Red"
"The Incredible Journey" (regardless of whether they're supposed to talk or not--I read the book in middle school--Michael J. Fox cracks me up as Chance!)
"The Fox and the Hound"
"Lady and the Tramp"
.....................................I could go on & on.........

However, now that I'm home a lot, I do get to catch up on my "Days of Our Lives" & let me fill y'all in......there is a GORGEOUS black & white pit bull on the show as Bonnie Lockhart's dog. He's been on the show for about 2 yrs now & they love showing him dressed up in some stupid costume or doing silly tricks. Gotta love it.

Baxter is a very strange movie, dark, a bit disturbing. But worth a watch either way, IMO. The copy I found at Blockbuster was all French with English subtitles.

I want to echo the recommendations for these movies:

Balto
Fox and the Hound
Lady and the Tramp

the "Incredible Journey" movies
Black Dog (even though the APBT is basically just a cameo part)
Oliver and Company
and All Dogs Go to Heaven

And my additions:

Turner and Hooch
Man's Best Friend
(kinda a B movie, but still worth a look IMO)
See Spot Run (another B-ish movie, but again...)
And if you're into anime, the Wolf's Rain series is about wolves who can disguise themselves as human. (GF Turtle's avatar is Toboe from that series.)
