So Sofie, my MRSA dog has cancer in her nose. This past friday we went to flush her nose and flushed out a chunk of tissue which we sent in for Biopsy that came back as this nose cancer that I guess is fairly aggressive. Radiation Treatment is the best option but 1.) I don't have $4,000. 2.) I'm not sure I would put a 13 year old dog through the potential trauma of Radiation because it's pretty serious stuff. I was also looking and all radiation can do, like anything else, is buy some time. She could get a year or two out of it, or only a few months.
My boss/veterinarian is going to talk to an oncologist today to see if doing a dose of chemo would buy us some time and hopefully shrink the tumor and make it more comfortable.
My biggest worry is that I won't know when the say it is "time". Like if she isn't showing outward signs of discomfort other than sneezing how do I know she is painful? I just had hoped her legs would fail or she's just get really old and crusty and quit eating, something to make it easier for me. I know she doesn't care that she has this problem, but I care because I want to be able to make the right decisions when the time comes.
Anyway I'm talking to my boss/vet today, we'll see what our options are.
