We got very bad news about Vincenzo

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

He is fabulous! We shot a video today for my Comm 241 online class and Vinny was an excellent visual aid, LOL.

I'm not sure why, but lately he and Reno have been doing a lot of humping on each other. They are doing this way more than they ever did before. At the risk of sound gross, I saw Vinny's red rocket the other day and it looked like it was all the way out! In four years I've never seen that!!

I must conclude from the way Vin is acting that he hasn't felt this good in a long time and I am THRILLED! He smiles all the time and is just loving life. :D

Thank you for asking, Dee. So how is Kato doing lately? I think about you guys every day.

Vinny is amazing! Kato definitely didn't feel that way during his chemo. lol I'm so glad he's doing well. :)

Kato's doing fairly well. He's awfully thin but eats like a horse. He is better than he was so I'm not complaining.
Thanks for asking! :)

We are lucky (in a twisted sort of way) that Vin got the cancer at a young age. I think that is why he's tolerating the chemo so well so far. Are you feeding Kato lots of fat? I'm sure you are, but that's my only contribution to how to make him fatter. Good thoughts from me and Vinny to you two, always.

Chemo #8 today, we are at the half way point, yay!

Vin's bloodwork was even better today. Calcium is back into the high normal range, yay! His red blood cells are better, very close to normal, everything else is in the normal range. His weight was down to 66.2 lbs. which scared me. Dr. B says she sees no indication that the reason is physical. I think the logical reason is that I've adjusted his food intake too low, and she thinks that's probably the reason too. I was going for the 2% of ideal weight to measure his food, but I'll up it to 3% plus a few extras . OMD, I'm starving my poor cancer stricken dog!

Throughout everything - chemo, scads of needles pokes everywhere, EKG roach clips, lung draining, prodding, all the time spent waiting to see the vet, all sorts of changes to his everyday routine, mama starving him, etc., etc., Vinny has been a magnificent trooper! He does whatever I ask of him, willingly - where else can you find that kind of loyalty and trust, but in the heart of pit bull?

I wanted to do something special for Vincenzo so I ordered him a collarmania collar. It came today! Vinny is sportin' it right now. Went for a military look since Shane is a soldier (& Vinny too in the war against cancer). It's got olive green lining and of course, safety orange military script on leather. We love it! Vin received lots of compliments on it in the Vet's office and he was quite a conversation piece in the waiting area today!

Here's Vin stylin':

The new collar is beautiful, and he is looking really great. I'm so glad he is doing so well with his treatment.

Hey everyone! Here is your weekly update on Vinny bo Binny (thanks to Joyce I've been singing him the Name song lately :D ).

I was totally confused about this chemo protocol, guess I didn't ask the right questions. Vinny is more than half way through the treatments! Yay! Vin is such a soldier, just plugging along doing everything asked of him and usually with a smile on that big bully mug :) He has had 9 treatments and only has 7 to go!! I did not realize that when Dr. B said 19 weeks that we actually get to skip a week here and there.

Vin has been so full of piss and VINegar all afternoon! He damn near tripped me while walking to the vet because he was so busy watching everyone along the way and enjoying his walk, cried for wanting to be close to his new baby pitbull friend Harley in the waiting room, and almost beat me black and blue with his tail every time one of the girls (including Dr. B) came to give him lovies while there! He is acting very special and spoiled these days. Of course that is only because he is very special and spoiled! Right now Vin and Reno are wrestling and having a blast!

Anyway, Vin's calcium is up again a little. Dirty rat calcium! The anemia is a little worse. Bun and creatine have gone a little into the high range too. Good news is everything else in the blood work looks fine. We did an xray to see what is happening with the tumor in light of the higher calcium and it looks great!!! The tumor is still gone. Next week is no chemo, but we will go in to do a check on the calcium. Dr. B feels that the calcium yo-yo is because of the cancer and not because of dietary changes. I've cut Vinny's calcium intake to very little, but I can't cut all the calcium because the things that contain calcium also contain other nutrients that he needs. As Dr. B said we have to pick our battles. Vin got the Doxorubicin today, which takes quite awhile to administer, and he stayed calm and still the whole time. He is such a wonderful, patient boy.

Overall, I have to say that Vinny is feeling great! He is happy, active, and loving his life. So even though I feel a little discouraged by the bloodwork I am staying positive. I know that if things were really worse with him, he would show it.

Thanks to all who continue to send good vibes, good thoughts, prayers, and all things positive our way. With your help my beloved Vincenzo continues to kick cancer's ass!!! We love and appreciate you all!!!!!!!

Wonderful, wonderful overall update. With Trouble, we always had some minor bloodwork dips along the way, but nothing major. Hopefully, Vinny will be just as lucky. They do get spoiled by all the special attention they get from the vet and staff. Trouble is quite the queen still when she shows up for a checkup. Just goes to show we aren't the only ones who think they are the BEST.

Lots of good vibes coming to Vinny for improvements with each and every checkup. You guys rock!

Thank you Shanna. It's good to know that you experienced the "dips" along the way too. You know how much we value you, Bob, and Trouble's experiences as a source of strength for us.

You are 100% right that we aren't the only ones who think they are the BEST! I had one vet tech tell me today that she would take Vinny home in a minute if I'd let her!

I talked to Dr. B about Trouble today while Vin was getting his chemo. Just telling Trouble's story and talking about the meds and all. She STRONGLY concurred about the tripawed thing! Dr. B totally agrees that letting go of the limb that has the cancer is the BEST decision all the way around. I could go on, but suffice it to say that everything you all did for Trouble in my best description to her was exactly what Dr. B said she would do! I know you all made wise decisions, but it made me feel good to have Vinny's doctor agree. Dr. B never lets me down!!!

Thanks again and YOU GUYS ROCK too!
