We got very bad news about Vincenzo

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

Today is a very good day! Vin went to see Dr. B today and to get some bloodwork done. Everyone commented on how much better Vinny looks than the last time they saw him! He is so much better!

His liver is almost back to normal. The ALT went from 666 on Halloween to 137 today which is just a hair above the normal range, woohoo! His calcium is great, his kidneys are great! We are discontinuing the Benazepril now. Vin will stay on his current dosage of Pred, but no other meds. Now that Dr. B finally got to see his leg, she thinks he probably did injure it during his tumble Sunday. She checked the lymph gland above the leg and it is normal. We will continue with heat therapy until it's all better. Provided Vinny has no more issues come up in the next couple of weeks, he will go back two weeks from today for another treatment with the CCNU. I REALLY hope we have a quiet next couple of weeks!

I also consulted this week with the same holistic expert Dee uses for Kato. Wow, that lady is great! I'm learning a lot more about homeopathic remedies. I had done a lot of research on the subject, but she has really clarified many of my questions and helped me to solidify a better plan for Vin.

There are so many little things too that let us know he feels better. He wants to potty out back like usual and yesterday he jumped from the ground up to the deck! I haven't seen him do that in a few weeks! He was also wrestling with Reno last night, which again he has not done in awhile. It's the little things that mean so very much these days.

Something else I noticed the last couple of days - Vinny's ears are really perky. He usually holds them back against his head, but now they are perky and up like when he was a pup. Hmmmm. I don't know what that is all about, but I like it. :D

Vinny sends big, sweet kisses to you all and I send many thanks for all the positive energy you send us.

Well so much for hoping for a quiet two weeks. :rolleyes2:

We go back to see Dr. B today because last night Vinny developed a big blister like thing on the leg that he injured. This is the same leg that had the "hot spot" place on it. That spot has not grown hair since it was shaved down, but looked pretty well healed lately. When his leg started swelling from his fluid/injury, I decided I'd better keep a good eye on it. The swelling has been gone since Saturday, but he still favors it and has yelped a few times when he has stepped on it wrong. Now we have this blister. It doesn't stink like infection, but I'll bet it is infected. Since chemo messes with the immune system, and CCNU can knock out his blood cells and increase his risk of infection, we need to get him on antibiotics a.s.a.p. if it is an infection. He licked it today and it started to seep blood. So, I put a big bandaid on it and wrapped it with an ace wrap to keep him from licking it. Jesus, Margaret - I will not ask "what's next?" cause I do not want to know!!

Other than this issue, Vinny has been doing very well! He is eating good and a couple of times the last few days was running around outside chasing after Reno, having a grand ole time. Yep, running with one gimpy leg and the first time he has run in awhile!!

Thanks Everyone!

MIni update - Dr. B made a slide from the oozing stuff and saw some bacteria, cells that fight bacteria, some blood cells, and some other cells that could be cancer. We sent some slides off to the lab to be analyzed. We are keeping Vin's leg covered and wrapped, and he is on antibiotics (Clavamox 375mg 2x day). We will get the lab results Thursday or Friday, hopefully. Vinny-bo-binny acts like he feels pretty good all things considered. :) I don't know why, but I feel pretty positive about this whole thing, almost like a huge wave of positive energy has swept over me and Vin. We MUST be feeling it from you all.

Please keep sending good thoughts and positive vibes for good lab results!

Thanks again!!!!

P.S.
I have to leave the study now because Vinny just cut one of those stank ass farts that I'm sure I will miss someday.....but that day isn't coming for a LOOOOONG time!!!
