Trouble's Diagnosis

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

It sounds like she's dealing pretty well with the chemo. :) Kato had to go back in to the vet a time or two for an injection to stop his vomiting.

Give her hugs from us!

She was frisky and ready to go. Made the drive home with no problem. At Dr Blabs recommendation, I gave her an anti-nausea med as soon as we got home. She then ate her dinner and begged for some of our soup. By 9:30ish she wasn't feeling real well, kinda droopy. No signs of chills this time so I guess that is a good thing. By 10 she was racing outside to vomit. (Another positive, after the first chemo, she didn't make it off the bed!) I gave her another anti-nausea pill and from then until 2AM, she was restless, wanted to be outside where it was cool to lay on the cool ground. She slept intermittently, but just couldn't get comfortable. We made 3 or 4 trips outside, once she had mild diarrhea and I gave her imodium. After 2AM, she slept without incident. She's still sleeping this morning, I guess getting caught up from last night.

We are so thankful for the relatively short time she feels bad after the treatments.

BTW, Dr Blabs, How do these anti-nausea pills work if they continue to vomit :bs:

Well, as you can imagine, they don't work too well if she is already vomiting. I would ask if it would be possible to give it in the morning before the chemo treatment, either by you before dropping her off, or by them. I usually give an injectible dose when they first come into the hospital. I use cerenia (lasts 24 hours) and, in cases like this with a history of being nauseous in the past, I will also give Pepcid injectible (lasts 12-24 hours) at the same time. :puke:

I hope she feels better. She is such a trooper!!! :groupHug:

And I think she feels each and every one. She is just really doing amazing. We cannot get her to play, not the hand game, not with toys, and not even with the new stuffie I bought her. I guess that too will come, we just have to wait until she's ready.

She really is stronger because of all of you. :goodStuff:

Thanks for all the good thoughts. It is so heartwarming for us and Troubs.

Trouble is back to her normal self today. It is just going to take her a few days to bounce back from the chemo. While she isn't physically ill for very long, she is pretty tired, needs rest, and just isn't her perky self for a few days. I'm still not complaining. This is much better than I expected.

I gave her a shower Monday morning before I went to work. We have two steps (tile of course) to the landing where the shower is. She managed to get up the steps without incident. I got her all showered and towel dried. I let her out of the shower while I was drying off. Well with her wet little feet, she decides to take on the steps without any help. She hit the first step with the one front leg and slid to a crumpled heap on the floor (thank god it's carpeted). Scared the pejabbers out of me, but apparently didn't bother her. I gave her a pain pill before I went to work, thinking she would most likely be sore.

She's pretty resilient, we haven't noticed that it has affected her in any way. Thanks again, you guys for all the wonderful support.

Mini Update - Trouble had her second CBC today. All is well, numbers are higher than the 1st after chemo check. And she's down another 5 lbs. Now I've got to do some research and see how much she should optimally weigh. Don't want to take her too low. Dr F is still happy with her progress. Woohoo, Go Trouble :mrHappy:
