We are DONE!

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

Postby LaylaWoobie » June 6th, 2008, 9:58 pm

Layla used to get treats fairly often, but she gets NONE now, except for training. And I don't use "treats" for that, I use food. I'll do either a string cheese, pepperoni or a hot dog cut into a million pieces, so that's better than crappy stuff that they sell at pet stores.

Mick's a lot bigger than Layla, so he's obviously going to eat more. Hopefully the vet will be able to fill you in on something I can't :|

I would hesitate to put him back on kibble - doesn't kibble "feed" cancer?

Even if it's one of the GOOD kibbles? Meat-based, grain-free?

I tried to follow the advise of the Oncologist, but I KNOW that three pounds of RAW a day is not realistic.
I think Micks "ideal" weight would be somewhere around 60 - 62 pounds or so.

You are all making me crazy. :rolleyes2:

I am trying... it's kind of hard to do what's best when there are so many different opinions to wade through.

TOTALLY understandable...you know Mick the best and you'll be able to feel out what's best for him too.

I think I'll start by not eye-balling, and actually measuring everything for a while. :P

But fluffy or not, he is my heart.

Crap... can I just add that my "eyeball-measuring" is terrible???

I used an actual scale today and it was a horrifying eye-opener, to say the least.

No wonder Mick won't finish his meals. Poor guy is probably eating as much as possible to make ME happy, not because he's hungry. :rolleyes2:

Feel free to call the ASPCA on me. :nono:

I seriously have to plead the Fifth... :sad2:

But Beast was VERY happy w/his actual pound of flesh last night, sucked it all down in less than two minutes, and promptly threw the empty bowl at me when he was done. We skipped the ice cream. lol

Maybe... :neener:

I think it's against board policy to pick on members (and their fluffy dogs) in good standing. >(

Don't forget that overweight dogs don't really feel flabby like overweight people do... which is why I think that so many people have overweight dogs. It still feels hard... but it's not muscle. Am I making any sense?

Yep, makes sense. :)

And again - I think it's against board policy to pick on members (and their fluffy dogs) in good standing. Especially when said members have seen the error of their ways and are working hard on correcting the situation. >(
