Dumpster's Story

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for having this site I can go on to post. I have had this site on my favorites and read it allot, but have only posted once. Dumpster is a 11 year pit and has been diagnosed with a mast tumor next to his penis and another one on his leg. The main concern for all of us is the one on his stomach, being such an odd area and also it is the size of a mango (as my vet says). This is not his first trip down this lane. The same time last year we had a tumor removed from his back leg. At that time I really learned about the pain tolerance of these little burgers, when he chewed his stitches out 3 times, to include the drain tube the vet put in the second time. With the help of allot of you here I learned about other e-collars to use and also a trip to my office everyday for about a month. We were the only accounting office with a Pit Bull Mascot I am sure. When I found out about the 2 new tumors I wasn't going to do anything, but I can't do that to my baby and he will be scheduled for surgery next Monday. The reason I wasn't going to do anything was his age, and having to put him thru another surgery, just to have more come up later and him to go thru it again. But, as a mom who loves her little furball I will keep trying to save him until I can't anymore. I know no one can do anything for him, but it helps to post on here were others are going thru the same thing. Leslie

I am sure it is going feel like an extra long, few days for you, while you wait for Monday to roll around. So, give him lots of extra attention and both of you will feel better!

Something tells me he will be JUST FINE, with his past experiences of surgery. He sounds very strong willed and that would mean he has a strong body.

Thank you for all the support, it is just what I needed. His surgery has been rescheduled for March 4th. The head vet wants to perform the surgery himself. Dumpster is one of his favorite patients (that's what he tells me anyway). So a couple of more weeks to go. I posted a couple of pictures of him and Roxie on my My Space page. http://www.myspace.com/roxiebell
Hope the link will work. Dumpster is the buckskin one. Roxie is the other one who is almost 14 and in pretty good health. Just thyroid pills daily and that's it. I will keep everyone posted and I hope you can get the pictures. He is such a cutie!!!
