RIP April

Postby msvette2u » March 18th, 2008, 3:19 pm

Where to start...
We had to put our old mare, April, down today.
She had gotten so thin over the summer. She's over 30 now, and if what the people who gave her to us is true, she was 36-37 years of age.

We had her for 6 years, and her pasture pal, Jelly Bean (the Appy gelding).

Jelly Bean and Classy, our Thoroughbred mare, are whinnying up a storm out there - they miss her

Her body condition was horrible, it became more apparent as her winter coat began to fall out.

Her knee has gotten so huge (old injury)

We kept putting off the inevitable-last year she was nowhere near this condition.

RIP old girl - I will miss you so much

RIP April, she was well-loved Yvette.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

sorry to hear about your ol' gal :(...atleast you know the last 6 years have been wonderful for her....

...when I split up my original 3 horses (two went to a sale) and I kept my Sonny it took him weeks to stop looking for them... people say their stupid animals, but I think their really smart, and remember the strangest things sometimes...

RIP beautiful April...

I know that there are few words that can describe the type of pain we feel when we lose one of our furry children, but if you can find any comfort in knowing that you are not alone, please do.

My daughter is 3 and she ADORESSSSSSS horses/pony's/zebra's or anything that remotely resembles a horse.
When she saw the picture of your April, she yelled out "OH HOW BEAUTIFUL !!! "...

So thank you for sharing your April with us. Her spirit is still bringing joy to those that lay eyes on her.

As a horse owner, about a week after I said "ok" and handed over my check...I started thinking about "that day". Cameo was 4 at the time I bought her. I still think about it often, and know it will not be easy no matter what, but even as a perfectly healthy show horse, I know...someday....
I am very sorry for your loss, but it sounds like she had a wonderful long life with good care, and loving horsey friends:) RIP April

Thank you so much for your kind words.
It's so tough - I kept hoping she'd pass on her own, but as she declined I knew I couldn't wait for it
