The physical deformities and issues are bad enough, yet we strive to fix, to heal, to mend...
The mental deformities...? Not so easy. In fact, in rescue, often difficult choices are made based on the animals' mental problems, moreso than the physical ones.
That's because with a great temperament, a dog (or cat) can overcome physical challenges. I'd rather deal with physical challenges than the "what ifs" of temperament ones.
With that background, we gave Freeway the freedom from his tortured mind last night as we held him.
I cried for Freeway, and because all the idiots out there who ruin dogs before their lives have hardly begun.
Give me dogs with broken legs, we'll mend them. Give me dogs with torn and tattered bodies - we'll dress them up and find them a home. Give me old dogs. They'll stay with us until the end.
Please, please...no more mentally tortured dogs
RIP Freeway.
