Serious Renee

Throw it!

This was the best one I got of her catching a ball. It's hard to throw and take the picture yourself.

I am in IN LOVE with Renee!!! I have a question for you...what breed? Her ears look very much Dutch Shepherd or Malinois...

I really don't know what she is. She came into rescue as a stray at 4 months old with her sister. I used to guess German Shepherd/Doberman mix, but she looks so much like the Dutch Shepherd on our flyball team sometimes that I wonder if there might be some of that in there. And her fur is a lot thinner than a GSD, which I think is more Malinois or Dutch Shepherd-like? She definitely has a shepherd personality. And I don't always mean that in a nice way

There's one lady on another flyball team that is convinced that she is a Beauceron :crazy2: Australian Kelpie was also suggested at some point.

This is my female Dutchie, Drusilla (Dru) - sorry about the lab in the 2nd pic, I was trying to find head-on pics of Drusilla:

However, this is my young female mal, Nisha (interestingly, she has Dutchie in her lines not that far back) - notice her ears (the closeness of them, shape of her head and where the ears sit):

Renee has the coloring of a shepherd, but she has the head (and ears lol) of a Dutchie. Most Dutchies, even from Europe, have shepherd and mal somewhere in them (it's not uncommon, in fact, to do cross breedings of mals and Dutchies b/c there simply aren't enough purebred Dutchie lines to prohibit inbreeding - which, of course, can lead to genetic defects).

I don't know where ANYONE would get Beauceron...the fur is usually smoother (more like a rottie's), and the ears have to be cropped to get the pointy ears...i could see with the coloring, though the coloring on Renee is more tan (like you would see on a shepherd) than brown-red (as in a Beauceron)...

Thanks for the pics Katrina!

Here's Laura's Dutch Shepherd, Hammer, who Renee reminds me of sometimes. You can't see the top of her ears in this picture, but I've seen the same look from Renee on occasion.

and just because it's cute and I love ears, here's a puppy pic of Hammer

She has ginormous rear dew claws, which the lady thought were doubles. Apparently Beaucerons have double rear dew claws. :|

Hammer is one good looking boy! His brindle doesn't stand out a whole lot...so, he looks a lot like a black malinois (which I love).

If Renee is very energetic, it sounds like she also has the personality of a Dutchie!

Hammer is actually a girl, but she'll thank you for the compliments anyway. She is a very cool dog, even though I don't get to see her very often. She's been doing some frisbee and is apparently doing very well in competition. I love watching her practice.

Renee? Energetic? Well, that's one way to put it  She actually is very mellow a lot of the time, especially when I get out of bed early enough to walk her in the morning. She's just overly attached to me, and shows her uncontrollable delight at me coming back after a long absence by SCREAMING and trying to jump all over me. She does the same thing when she sees squirrels in the yard and I have the audacity not to let her out to chase them, or when I pick up a leash, or the car keys, etc, etc. We're working on it, and she's gotten a lot better. She's a work in progress.

Oops...my mistake! Well, SHE is beautiful!

And most herders are a work in progress...that's what makes them so much fun!
