Thank god not for Inara! My friend has a dog that has started freaking out in his crate and chewed a hole into a solid-sided crate, at the edge where it meets the door. Cut up his face/head. She has since been keeping him in the basement until she gets a new crate, but now he's destroying things down there. So she needs a tiger cage, and she needs it like, yesterday.

What brands do you all recommend that are even REMOTELY affordable? She's afraid he'll break teeth off if it has any bars at all, so he essentially needs a box.

On a side note, she is going to call the vet and look into Prozac or Clomicalm to help him through this new anxiety.

Thanks!

The one that we had was $1200 new. She's going to pay MUCH more than that if he needs emergency obstruction surgery, so unless she's planning to put him down if he eats something that will kill him, it's actually cheaper for her to invest in the crate. A LOT cheaper.

Oh she knows that. She's already planning on borrowing the money to buy one. She doesn't need anything huge like your tiger cage. Dexter is pretty compact, maybe 40 lbs - short and stout. I think she's hoping to find one for maybe $700-$800. Is that possible?

I had an adopter with a husky that was a crate eater. He finally ended up making one at home out of plexiglass. It was cheaper and virtually indestructible. Not much help, I know, but something to consider.

The ones like I sold to Heather this past fall retail for around $500...

Also the Empire cages from PetEdge run under 400. I think that's the way I'm gonna go for Blue (though I'm still scouring CL for used tiger cages . . .).

I guess Travis needs to get on putting his thoughts together on making these for people. He has been trying to figure out how to make one for Sis's Blue for a while.

Oooh, I'd never seen that website before.

And Missy, Travis does need to get on the ball! He could make a killing!

It's just a box with cut out windows and a door with hinges and a latch :)

And if you want to get fancy, a slide out tray in the bottom.

Get that man moving!

He could make it, he is just trying to figure out how to ship them without it costing so much. :) So his mind has been thinking of another material that would work that is lighter. Don't ask me the details yet. I don't understand when he starts talking "work" stuff. My Dad is in the making things out of metal also so I will let them get together and come up with a prototype.

Ours was heavy gauge aluminum, and I could lift it no problem - and it was big.

About 1/3 of it was bars though, so I'm sure that helped a lot.

I can't wait to see what he makes!
