Now that I feel comfortable with all of you, I would like to mention that make stuff to sell. I have been making pens, pencils, and other gifts on my lathe. Everything is turned by me, so it's all custom, and unique.

I have a business name, Sawyer's Turn, so named because Sawyer lays next to me in the workshop every time I work on stuff. And yes, he does get dusty!

I can turn a variety of natural and man-made materials to suit every taste. Natural materials include domestic and exotic woods, (which can also come dyed in different colors) and deer antler (for those hunter friends!). Man-made materials include Acrylic & Carbon Fiber.

Materials that are a combination (partly natural, partly man-made) are Dyed Corn Cob, Cereal, Crushed Pearl & Snake Skin.

The pen parts come in a variety of finishes, such as, 24 K. gold, Brushed Satin, Black Enamel, Titanium Nitrate, Platinum (Rhodium), Black Titanium Nitrate, Chrome, Copper & Gun metal. There is a new one out that is made from bullet cartridges, and comes in silver and gold also.

The are Twist, Click, Screw Top, Roller Ball & Fountain type of pens.

Examples of things I've made are, pens, pencils, pen/pencil sets, ornaments, perfume atomizers, snowman, lighthouse, baby rattle, dumbbell, detachable key chains & neck pens, USB Thumb Drive, mini flashlight, letter opener/magnifying glass set, kaleidoscope & bottle stopper with cork screw. The baby rattle & dumbbell have a food safe finish.

If you would like to see some of what I've done you can visit http://www.sawyersturn.homestead.com and Sawyer will show you around.

if you have questions and want to order something send me a PM.

He was working on getting his website built (a friend is doing it)...and he was kinda busy (12 pens for a friend on the flyball team over Xmas alone!)

Wow! Those are super nice! What are the prices like? I'm a junkie for fountain pens. I love how they scritch on the paper. Feels elegant. :heartbeat:

Beautiful!!! VERY nice, John!

A couple of years ago, we went to a Christmas Fair and found an older gentleman who hand-turns pens. We bought two gorgeous fountain pens made out of elk (I think) antler. Unfortunately we lost his business card, so I'm happy to find a new place for gifts!

I'm with ya...when John made me my first gift, he asked what I wanted...my response..Fountain PEN! I love the scritch too. ;) He made mine with acrylic (so I can't scratch it and ruin it in my purse)...that's called "Caramel Corn"...it looks so yummy.

PS...John's computer cable is frayed...so he's only on my computer for the time being...

Thank you all for the compliments.

The average pen is about $30. If you want a more exotic wood or more detailed pen parts it will be a bit more.

I'll get some more close-ups posted...when the website was being built, we didn't have the pics of photobucket yet.
