Found a Video From Last Summer

Weight pull, Protection, Agility, Flyball... you name it!

Postby DemoDick » February 19th, 2008, 3:46 am

I remembered doing this today and finally uploaded it. We recorded it last summer. This is the first time Connor ever saw this exercise, and he is not tied down in any way, nor is he wearing an e-collar. The only thing keeping him in the down is his own self control, and he HATES the distraction. The only thing I am asking him to do is stay in his down and ignore the decoy, who is, to put it mildly, annoying him. Thanks to Chris Fraize for the idea.

That's great! Indy would eat that hose in a heartbeat! :lol3:

I have watched all your videos and I love them. Gotty loves the water hose and would have a fit if we made him sit there without playing. Kinzyl is scared of it so that would be a real challenge on her. Anyway very good work with Connor.
I am just curious, why is Connor's tail docked? Is it because of the type of work he is in? Just curious.

Connor had one of those "happy" tails that would split open and bleed every time he cracked it on a wall, door, whatever. Michelle and Demo tried repeatedly to let it heal, but it would just break open again and again. The best solution was to dock it.

 Thanks, I was wondering. I never knew that could happen. Does it happen when they are young or can it occur later on? Gotty can hurt you with his tail, Kinzyl's is not so bad. But I do worry about Gotty sometimes. Never noticed it splitting but I will watch it. Connor is a beautiful dog.

I love learning new stuff everyday.

It can happen any time during a dog's life. My guys have all split their tail tips open at one time or another, but I've been lucky and their tails have healed. Katy almost ended up getting docked because her tail is a freakin' weapon! Tucker split his open at the vet a few weeks ago and I didn't really notice how bad it was until he got home -- now I have blood streaks all over the entryway wall, LOL. Thankfully we haven't painted that one yet.

We have a dog for training right now who spins repeatedly in his crate...and his tail has been torn open as a result (and he's missing all the hair off of it)...we already have him in a 500 crate...

Demo, was that the day I went to training with you guys? Connor certainly does hate the hose, so it was really impressive seeing him take it. I love watching him work!

Yeah, that was the day. I remember telling you that I might need you to vouch for me that I didn't "beat him into submission" beforehand.

*raises hand* I hereby solemnly swear that Connor was in no way harmed and/or threatened before, during or after this video.

Nice...Inara would have loved to help Connor with that "distraction"...
