Hi, my name is Cheryl Hurley. I manage a number of properties, mainly in the city of Rochester. We started rescuing a number of animals, since 1983. Currently, we have Bishop, a 10 1/2 year old loving Rottweiller; Missy, a 7 1/2 year old energetic bull terrior mix; Maxine a 3 1/2 year old brindle pit bull; Elmo, a 4 year old pit bull mix; and Lucky, an 8 month old Beagle/Hound/Labrador mix we just rescued. In 2010, we have also rescued 2 pit bulls, a minature dog (I am not sure what breed), a cat and a bunny. So far we have found good homes for them, but we keep finding more. We also have a batch of cats outside our business that we feed. We hope to put them through the trap & neuter/spay program and release program---thus preventing more kittens this spring.
Frequently I have tenants that no longer want their animals or they are not taking care of them properly---the animal's ribs are showing and/or they are ill. Unfortunately, six large dogs is a lot for us---the pack mentality comes in to play and the dogs fight to be Alpha Dog. Maxine went from a quiet pit bull to now being in charge of the other dogs. We are looking for good homes for the new animals we find---especially the pit bulls because the City Animal control puts them to sleep if the owner does not claim them.
I learned about Michelle and the forum through Brian. Brian used to work for me and he now helps to rescue thoroughbreds.
