I do keep a stun gun on hand, just in case.

fortunately, I've never had to use it...

so I have little idea of what its effect will be on my dogs.

I can say for certain that my husband doesn't like it though!

This post was from the break stick thread, but to avoid that one going off topic, I have made it into its own thread.

I've heard before -in news reports- that it doesn't affect dogs as much??

Though, if I believe everything I read and watch, my dog is going to snap one day and kill me.

IMO a stun baton (150 watt) is a better tool for the jobthen a break stick.

Why I think they are better:
~ they are quicker.
~less chance that the dog(s) will re-grip
~You don't have to secure the other dog
~Can be used by one person even if their are multiple dogs

Why I think some people shouldn't have them:
~because they're are a lot of irresponsible idiots that will misuse them

So if you are an idiot, stick with a break stick or even better.. ..Don't own any animals

I don't really want one, I'd rather trust a break stick than hope the batteries aren't dead.

It's not that hard to keep it charged.

I don't see myself on a walk with more then 2 dogs going at it while calmly using a break stick. Chaos!

A stun baton allows you distance and speed. It might even stop a fight before they hold.

No but it might be worth a try. It would probably depend on the dog.

If the dogs really get into it, startling them won't help, but it could distract them before it really starts.

But I'm not going to carry an air horn in my pocket!

I know my dogs FREAK when I drop a pan on the stone tile of our kitchen floor. Whatever they are doing, they stop immediately and run for the hills. :|

I have one in the kennel for the "just in case." It's very old and covered in dust . . . obviously never used.

I've seen airhorns used as distractions during PSA trials (during the down in front of the decoy)...blowing one at some dogs will make them bite the decoy....some will take off...most will just lay there....most of these dogs are prepared for everything....I've done all sorts of odd noise stuff with my puppy....
