I ordered this book and got it in the mail today, and I had to laugh. She's talking about "biddable" dogs, and then has this description:

Biddable: willing to carry out the wishes of others: amenable, compliant, conformable, docile, obedient, submissive, supple, tractable (Rogers II: The New Thesaurus, Third Edition 1995). These are qualities that have been highly prized by breeders of working dogs throughout the centuries. Careful breeding over thousands of years has cultivated dogs that have an inclination to both work with and take direction from man. If you are reading this book, you probably do not have one of these dogs. If you laughed when you read the definition of biddable you definitely do not have one of those dogs.

That last sentence just killed me!

This is one of my recommended books... I this book. My copy is out on loan to a friend that has WHIPPETS.

I have naturally biddable dogs and some that are not naturally biddable...so I enjoyed this book immensely!

I definitely do NOT have biddable dog! Though admittedly their stubbornness is kind of what I love about my bulldogs.

I'm actually thinking of getting Control Uleashed finally, then I just saw that there is a DVD set that goes with it. Has anyone seen the DVD's? Are they worth the money?

Erin, was it the Control Unleashed videos that we watched at Hazel's in NH when I went up to the flyball tournament with you a couple years ago? I'm thinking not, but my memory is hazy. I remember that the one we watched was not very good, but I don't remember what it was.

No...they weren't CU videos...it was before CU...ummm...they were some sort of Clean Run videos. I don't remember what they were (other than really bad).

I have one biddable dog, and one mentally challenged dog... 'erm, I guess I would call him not-so-biddable. Life is never dull living with him.

Has anyone compiled lists of good training books? I am always looking for a good read and I need to brush up on my training techniques. I think it is time for Mr. Braindead (said with the upmost love) to have a refresher course.

I thought the club had copies of this I know at one point they did a review of the dvd's at someone's house a few months back. I would contact Ada to find out since she hosted the review at her place

I think CU had just come out...I think Hazel had a copy that I was drooling over. But the videos are newer...they weren't for CU...I know that much.

Control Unleashed is on my list as well. I have heard so many good things about it. I didn't know there was a DVD set too.

Our copy of When Pigs Fly came today. What fun! Just as I started searching for that definition of "biddable", the FedEx truck came down the driveway, hours early. Vanya was snoozing on the back deck in the sun, and decided it was his turn to illustrate what When Pigs Fly is all about. He adores vans, new people, open car doors...so when the FedEx driver opened up her door, Vanya leapt in (ignoring my recall command, of course) and tried to smother her with kisses, in between checking out her van for hidden treats. Luckily, she likes dogs and Vanya decided she's even cuter than his plush dog.

Here's a clip of Vanya playing the shaping game. I'm lazy, so I usually lure, but I felt guilty enough reading the first chapters that I decided to get out a wooden box and shape some interactions with the box:
