off leash dog deterrant?

So, lately it seems more and more we have been accosted by not just off leash dogs (because that in itself is not my issue, appropriate off leash dogs are fine. But they are not appropriate, or not for the most part.

I don't take my dog to offleash dog parks, and the parks I do go to are supposed to have dogs on leash (Last sunday we must have seen about 10-15 dogs on our hike, 2 that I can recall were leashed, though most do listen, somewhat.

Uzi is sensitive, and I am tired of him being exposed to rude dogs. He is already apprenhensive, and this is not making it better.

I was trying to fenangle some kind of idea in my head for a magnetized shake can, so that it doesn't rattle for the rest of our walks.
Any other ideas?

Auto-open umbrella where you hit the button and it shoots out and open.

Citronella spray.

Pepper spray.

Walking stick.

Yeah, if you're in the words or a park it doesn't look out of place, and it'd be long enough to swing at oncoming dogs without being up close and personal.

well the other ones are a bit more long lasting as well. And if I pepper sprayed or citronella'ed an "innocent" dog I might get in trouble!
