Dogs abandoned in foreclosed Middletown (CT) home
(Middletown-WTNH, Oct. 12, 2006 4:40 PM) _ In Middletown some abandoned pups are now in need of some special attention.
The city's animal control officer says seven dogs and two puppies were not only flea infested but they are extremely skittish.
The pups are being held at the Portland pound where workers say they are trying to get them used to people.
The dogs had been left in a Middletown home after the bank foreclosed on it and the elderly woman living there left without them.
All the dogs that were removed from the house were terribly under socialized and they're just frightened of everything." says Gail Petras, Animal Control Officer
If the dogs do not go to a home soon they may have to be put down because the shelter is overcrowded.
Middletown dogs are housed at the Portland Animal Shelter just over the Arrigoni Bridge from Middletown. The office is at the Middletown Police Department at 222 Main St. in Middletown, CT. Call (860) 344-3298 to make an appointment to meet the dogs so arrangements can be made to have an ACO meet you at the shelter for access.
*I just watched this story on the news -- the dogs appear to be yellow lab mixes and are absolutely terrified due to lack of socialization. The ACO made a point to say they are NOT aggressive.*
